Hijack season 2 will see Idris Elba’s hostage negotiator stuck in another crisis – so make sure you know what time episode 1 drops and what happened last time.

When it premiered in 2023, Hijack quickly became one of the best Apple TV shows.

It was a taut, edge-of-your-seat thriller that repackaged a plot once reserved for ’90s action movies into something glossier and smarter.

Soon, Elba’s Sam Nelson will go up against another threat. Hijack season 2 will take him to Berlin – but this time, it’s not the flight that’s the problem.

What time is Hijack season 2 out on Apple TV?

Hijack season 2 will premiere at 8am UK time on Wednesday, January 14, on Apple TV.

This is the most common release time for new TV shows across all the streaming platforms. There have been exceptions; for example, Severance dropped new episodes in the early hours of the morning.

Rest assured, as long as you log on and watch it at 8am, you won’t risk seeing any spoilers. If you’re in North America or another territory, you can check when it drops in your time zone below:

  • 12am PT
  • 1am MT
  • 2am CT
  • 3am ET
  • 4am Brazil
  • 8am UK
  • 9am Central Europe
  • 10am Eastern Europe
  • 1pm India

How many episodes are there?

Hijack season 2 will have eight episodes, a slight increase from the seven-episode first season.

Does this mean it will take place across eight hours, mimicking the real-time(ish) experience of following KA29? That remains to be seen.

However, it won’t drop all at once. Instead, it’s starting off with a single-episode premiere followed by one episode each week until its finale.

What happened at the end of Hijack season 1?

In the Hijack season 1, Elba’s Sam successfully helps with landing the plane and makes it out alive (not for the hijackers’ lack of trying).

Quick recap: the hijackers take control of the plane (KA29, from Dubai to London) to pressure the Home Office into releasing two notorious, drug-smuggling criminals.

Things get a bit complicated with their other reasons, but it boils down to money. They had clearly shorted the airline’s stock, meaning they’d profit from its collapse when news of the hijacking leaked.

By the end, one of the two criminals ends up dead. Meanwhile, the passengers take back control of the plane. However, an unexpected fail-safe emerges: Amanda, a seemingly normal passenger blackmailed by the criminals to kill the pilot and put the aircraft back on track.

Thankfully, Sam gets assurances from the authorities that she won’t be charged with murder, so she lands the plane as safely as she can.

What is season 2 about?

In Hijack season 2, Sam will find himself “at the heart of the crisis” on board a Berlin underground train after its commuters are taken hostage.

Elba, who’s an executive producer on the series, told Deadline that he wanted to put his character in a “very different place”.

“Physically, there is a difference to the way he looks from Season 1 and that was intentional. When you find out what is going on through the season, you realise this is a broken man who is trying to find those answers,” he teased.
