Quiz, ITV’s drama about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire cheater Charles Ingram, is on Netflix now. If you want to watch the real-life footage of him on the show, there’s an easy way.

In September 2001, Ingram spent two days in the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire studio.

By the end, he correctly answered all 15 questions, becoming the third-ever contestant to win the top £1 million prize.

Suspicions quickly arose, and as the scandal unfolded, ITV decided to pull the episodes from its schedule. Over two decades later, if you’ve just caught up with Quiz on Netflix, you can finally watch Ingram’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire episode online.

How to watch Charles Ingram’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire episode

Real footage from Ingram playing Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is available to watch via the show’s official YouTube channel.

The 46-minute video is free to stream. As the opening text says, it’s “real footage of the most-talked-about moment in game show history”. You can watch it below:

If you’ve watched Quiz, you’ll see all of the actors’ real-life counterparts: Chris Tarrant (played by Michael Sheen), Ingram (Matthew Macfadyen), his wife Diana (Sian Clifford), and fastest finger cougher Tecwen Whittock (Michael Jibson).

“During the trial… the prosecution presented a videotape of the game show recording from the Major’s appearance which had been assembled by the show’s producers,” the video explains.

“It was referred to as ‘Tape G’. Now you will see the raw footage itself.”

The video also points the viewer to things they may have missed, like Diana coughing and looking down at Whittock, who was convicted with the Ingrams.

‘Tape G’ also featured amplified coughing. In court, Ingram claimed he neither “listened for, encouraged, nor noticed any coughing”.

Quiz viewers react to Charles Ingram episode: ‘He could’ve gotten away with it’

The video was first uploaded to YouTube after the premiere of Quiz on ITV.

With interest in the mini-series reignited following its addition to Netflix, viewers have been seeking out the real-life footage.

“It’s so obvious from 16:01 and onwards, the way she roles her eyes you can tell what’s going on, and she keeps looking at Tecwen! Then the cough of course,” one user commented.

“He could’ve gotten away with it, if he didn’t make the person cough 20 times for each question,” another commented.

“To be fair, their plan was ingenious but they executed it so badly,” a third added.

“People wouldn’t have noticed if he hadn’t stupidly DOUBLE CHECKED every time, causing twice the number of coughs, which people then noticed. He also mentions ALL four options, every question, which is just too odd,” a fourth wrote.

In the aftermath of Ingram’s ‘win’, Tarrant candidly admitted that he never noticed any of the coughing. He’s since said that Ingram is a “rotter and a cad and a bandit and he was guilty”.

Meanwhile, it was reported in 2020 that Charles and Diana planned to appeal their verdict with the help of lawyer Rhona Friedman.

“Where we have got to now is the ability to properly discern the many coughs… there was actually a lot of coughing, although Charles and Chris Tarrant didn’t hear it during the recording,” she told ITV.

There have been no further updates regarding their appeal.
