If anything will make you gag, this list will!

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here‘s producers really do put the campmates through their paces by using vomit fruit and other gross things in Bushtucker Trials. But what is it all?

This year’s celebs have already been subjected to an array of grim stuff and we aren’t even one week in yet.

Last night, poor Aitch didn’t even manage to keep his fish eyes down and had to run to a nearby bush. Yuck!

Here’s a quick rundown of vomit fruit and all the stomach-churning and fear-inducing things used in I’m A Celebrity.

I’m A Celebrity: What is vomit fruit?

Vomit fruit has been a favourite Bushtucker Trial companion for some years now. And it very much does what it says on the tin. Yes, that’s right. It leaves the campmates wanting to spew.

But what exactly is it? The real name for vomit fruit is actually Noni. It is a tropical plant that is native to Polynesia, an area close to Australia.

Noni actually looks like a green, under-ripe pine cone with a rough skin. When cut open, it is scattered with small brown seeds.

The reason it is called vomit fruit is because it both smells and tastes like sick. It is pungent and bitter and is also often compared to cheese. It also leaves a disgusting after taste when eaten.

There is a silver lining, however. Noni is said to have potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Well there’s the positive…

Fish eyes: Can you eat them?

Aitch was up to his eyes in fish eyes during Thursday’s Bushtucker Trial. I’m A Celebrity bosses had tried to pass them off as ‘marshmallows on sticks’ during the Camp Fright challenge. But they were anything but the sort!

Fish eyes are actually eaten in many cultures around the world, In fact, they are even thought of as a delicacy in some parts of Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and even in Iceland.

They are packed with omega-3 fatty acid, which is great for the brain, and considered a great food source. But, here’s the ‘but’, they aren’t often served up raw!

Raw fish eyes carry a risk of foodborne illnesses and parasites, which hot temperatures will kill. Given that, it’s probably best Aitch spat them out!

What is offal?

Offal is a Bushtucker Trial staple. But do you know what exactly it is?

It is actually the term used for the internal organs of dead animals. This includes heart, liver, tongue, lungs, stomach and kidneys. They are all edible if cooked properly.

Of course, the I’m A Celebrity producers don’t cook offal for the campmates to eat. Oh no, all the bits of dead animal body are used to conceal the yellow stars used in the Bushtucker Trials.

This goes a long way in explaining why the I’m A Celebrity campmates wear red socks.

Fish guts

Fish guts is another staple found in the I’m A Celebrity jungle. If the campmates aren’t wading through offal, it will likely be this.

Again, this is the internal organs of the fish. It can include the stomach, intestines and entire digestive tract. Last year, during one particularly hideous trial called Farmyard of Fear, Coleen Rooney ended up with a mouthful of fish guts.

Fish guts aren’t eaten by many. However, they can be found in Korean stew. Usually, they are used as animal feed – and in cosmetics and dietary supplements.

See – all this stuff is good for you, really…

Animal unmentionables

Of course, we can’t fail to mention all the animal penises, vaginas and anuses that are used in the I’m A Celebrity Bushtucker Trials. If anything is going to turn a campmate’s stomach, it is this.

Earlier this week, Ruby Wax even found herself chowing down on a pig’s giant testicle. Often served on cocktail sticks, as if they look nicer that way(!), they are a mainstay of the food trials.

It is no surprise that Ant McPartlin admitted this week that the celebs usually throw up on their way back to camp.
