ITV flooded with complaints minutes into tonight's I'm A Celebrity South Africa as viewers 'switch off'

'They ended on a cliffhanger for that?!'
Nancy Brown

I’m A Celebrity South Africa continued tonight (April 8) with the end of Gemma Collins and Craig Charles’ trial.

The second episode of the series – ITV’s second all-stars season – ended on a cliffhanger last night. Gemma and Craig both said they’d be able to down 30 shots of pig’s blood, and the first to do it would win food for their camp.

Last night’s show ended with the pair picking up their first shot glass and, tonight, viewers were expecting big things…

Gemma Collins and Craig Charles end their first I’m A Celebrity South Africa trial

I’m A Celebrity hosts Ant and Dec hyped up the end of the trial before crossing back to the clearing for its culmination.

Gemma and Craig downed their first shot, then their second and third… And that’s where Gemma stopped. Instead of carrying on, she held her hand over her mouth to stop herself from puking, sat back and watched Craig win the trial by downing the next 26 shots.

Complaints immediately poured in. But they weren’t aimed at The GC. They were directed straight at ITV.

‘I’m finished with I’m A Celeb’

I’m finished with #imaceleb. They have taken the [bleep] with viewers, cliffhanger for that. It’s finished,” said one.

“Ending on a cliffhanger just for Gemma to barely do any shots,” complained another. “They really put it on a cliffhanger just for Gemma to give up after four shots,” another agrees.

“Let’s be honest though, we could have squeezed that last bit of the trial in last night’s episode ffs,” another commented. “They ended last night’s episode on a cliffhanger FOR THAT?!” said another enraged viewer.

“Aragh, I stayed up just for that?! Switching off!” said another. “Fuming,” another raged, with a gif of a man aiming their remote at the telly.

But if you think ITV learnt its lesson and let Sinitta and Seann Walsh finish their trial tonight, then you’d be mistaken. That ended on another cliffhanger!

“Stop ending it before the trial finishes. It’s not big and it’s not clever!” declared one viewer. “Oh [bleep] off with this new trial-win cliffhanger!” complained another. “Another cliffhanger! Poor Sinitta and Sean having to sit with snakes on their heads for the next 23 hours!” quipped a third.

“Won’t be watching tomorrow, as someone previously said, It’s not a soap! Should be a proper episode without the unnecessary cliffhanger,” another added.
