For the last few episodes, Emmerdale fans finally have been getting to see the murder of Dr Todd. In a rare Sunday episode, viewers watched Sarah Sugden learn how Charity had been raped. Desperate not to let Todd get away, Sarah shoved her and she fell, hitting her head.
However, Charity refused to let Sarah take any responsibility for the death, and told the police it was her. But if things don’t go their way for the self-defence route, Charity could see herself locked up. And fans are concerned that’s exactly what will happen.
Charity and Sarah stick to their story
In tonight’s instalment, Sarah and Charity tried their hardest to make the police see it was self defence – and was done by Charity.
However, during the interrogations, Sarah found herself getting muddled up at times. After she pointed out that Todd had a sinister look on her face, it was quickly thrown back that had she been standing at the door, she wouldn’t be able to see her face.
Sarah thought she had messed everything up. But ultimately, she was allowed to leave, while Charity remained in custody. The detective informed Charity that due to the investigation towards Todd about her assault, they now need to work out if Charity killed her for revenge.
With Charity adamant it didn’t happen like that, and determined to take the fall for Sarah, things could get pretty bleak in the future. But the big question everyone wants to know – is this the end of Emma Atkins in Emmerdale?
Is Emma Atkins leaving Emmerdale?
Some fans have grown increasingly concerned that this storyline could ultimately lead to Charity’s exit from the soap. Over the last few months, several cast members have departed – including Charity’s own son, Noah.
Taking to social media, and Reddit, fans shared their worries.
One penned: “Does anyone have the fear that Charity’s going to end up in prison for a while? It could bring a temporary exit for Emma Atkins after this big storyline. Or there could be a prison story?”
Another fan wrote: “I just hope the story doesn’t continue with Charity actually taking the blame for Sarah. I can’t see my girl in prison again.”
“I genuinely can’t see another tweet about Charity going to prison. Please no” a third commented.
While Charity has confessed to the murder to protect Sarah, she is trying to play the self-defence route like Serena told them to. And spoilers haven’t given anything away about the future of the storyline.
However, for a while there have been quite a few exits from Emmerdale. And a few have still reportedly to come. Sources suggest Jimmy King, Dawn Fletcher and Vinny Dingle are all set to leave the village sometime soon.
So, it’s important to note that at this current stage there are no rumours or reports swirling that Emma Atkins is leaving her role. And returning Patsy Kensit has teased she has filmed a scene with Emma, so it’s safe to assume – for now at least – that Charity isn’t leaving.
However, it is a soap. And things can change really quickly. So, we never really know what’s around the corner.
