Why Janice Dickinson wasn't involved in Netflix's Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model documentary
Janice has said her fair share on Tyra in the past...Janice Dickinson, who was a judge on America’s Next Top Model, was not a part of Netflix’s documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, leaving many wondering why.
Former supermodel Janice joined America’s Next Top Model during Cycle 1 and remained as a judge until Cycle 4.
Despite no longer being part of the panel, she remained on the show for several seasons after, appearing as a guest and photographer.

Host Tyra Banks and her fellow executive producer, Ken Mok, were a part of the documentary, as were countless judges and former contestants.
However, Janice was visibly missing. On the show, Janice, now 71, was no stranger to speaking her mind and giving the contestants, and often Tyra, a piece of her mind. Therefore, her not being involved felt like a missed opportunity to viewers.
The documentary has been directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan. Executive producers are Ryan Miller, Jason Beekman, Vanessa Golembewski, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain, Ian Orefice, and Jonna McLaughlin.
Following speculation, director Daniel told Netflix Tudom that Janice wasn’t available.
“We would’ve absolutely loved to interview Janice. She’s bigger than life,” he said.
“Unfortunately, she was tied up on another documentary,” Daniel continued, adding: “The beauty of social media today is [that] I am absolutely sure we’ll be hearing all of the sordid comments in the next few weeks. So I personally am staying tuned.”
Next month, Janice will be having her say on the show in a separate series called Dirty Rotten Scandals. The ‘explosive docuseries’ will share a glimpse into Dr. Phil, America’s Next Top Model and The Price is Right.
The America’s Next Top Model episode is set to premiere on March 11 on E! in the USA. Janice appears in the trailer and claims the show “tortured” its contestants for Tyra’s “ego”.
Janice Dickinson said her ‘paycheck stayed the same’ on the show
This isn’t the first time Janice has slammed Tyra, however. Over the years, she has opened up about her unfriendly relationship with the fellow supermodel and how they clashed behind the scenes.
In 2021, Janice did an interview on the Behind The Velvet Rope Podcast, Janice said that sitting next to Tyra “hours and hours” was “daunting” because “she didn’t really like me”.
Janice would remind Tyra that she graced many covers of Vogue; meanwhile, Tyra hadn’t.
The former I’m A Celebrity star admitted she didn’t treat Tyra “like a producer”, which Tyra would remind her of.
When choosing who should win each cycle, Janice said it came down to CoverGirl deciding, not the judges. As a result, she felt her opinion was not needed.
While remaining on the show, Janice said “the paycheck stayed the same” and never increased as the show became more popular.
Janice accused Tyra of editing what she said
In 2007, Janice appeared on the red carpet for the Fox Reality Really Awards ceremony and was asked about her relationship with Tyra.
In a non-serious manner, she replied: “She’s alright!”
“She jacked my [ass] the entire time I was on her show,” Janice stated. “She jacked everything I said and then remixed it and re-edited to suit her fancies.”
Sarcastically, Janice announced: “She’s a real smart producer!”
Janice revealed brutal reason why she was fired from ANTM
In a 2023 interview with Queerty, Janice revealed that when she first joined the show, she was asked to visit Tyra in her office. When she did, she claimed Tyra had Janice’s book with post-it notes on certain ages.
Janice insisted there were many things within the memoir that could help ANTM. “She didn’t tell me that was what her plan was, but I was seeing throughout the show things that I’ve written in my book and she basically took it out word for word.”
Janice claimed that Tyra’s famous term, “smize with your eyes,” was stolen from her book.
“It was OK but after a couple of years, I went up to Tyra, politely, and asked her for a parody as a writer,” she explained. Janice believed she had lots of ideas to help produce the show with her.
However, things backfired on Janice as she shared: “She turned her back on me for that and then I got fired the next season.”
When asked if the pair had talked since, Janice firmly replied: “No, don’t mess with the money! No, no no. Not with her!”
She insisted Tyra had done “a lot of harm for kids” due to her criticisms on the show that would “cut deep”.
‘She’s not a friendly lady’
While speaking to The Bachelorette alum Kaitlyn Bristowe on her Off the Vine podcast, Janice bluntly said that Tyra is not nice behind the scenes.
“She’s not a friendly lady,” she declared.
Tyra hosted Dancing with the Stars when Kaitlyn was a contestant, and Janice asked if she was nice to her. About to say no, Kaitlyn explained she had one phone call with Tyra and almost no other communication with her.
Janice insisted that Kaitlyn was “too beautiful for her”, claiming: “She does not like beautiful women.”
Janice once apologised to Tyra
Janice said that Tyra hired Janice to be a “female Simon Cowell” on ANTM and said she “loved working” with her.
“Tyra’s a tough businesswoman, she does great TV and I respect her as a woman,” she shared.
However, she addressed her previous comments. Janice added: “I’ve said some pretty bad things about her in the past because I had been fired. I was very hurt that I had been fired and so I acted out but that’s not when I was acting in a sober-like fashion.”
Tyra refuses to address Janice
While doing an in-depth interview with Cynthia McFadden on ABC’s Nightline in 2009, Tyra was asked about why judges such as Janice and Paulina Poraskova.
Tyra refused to answer and just smiled. However, Cynthia implied they might be “jealous” of her.
Following the Netflix doc, Tyra has faced fierce backlash for a lack of “accountability”. However, she has yet to break her silence on the matter.
In the doc, she even teased a new series of the show. “You have no idea what we have planned for Cycle 25,” she announced.
