The Traitors’ Jessie: X Factor past

Jessie, 28, tried her luck on The X Factor in 2016. She auditioned for the ITV1 show in a bid to impress judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger.

The Traitors star, who is a Faithful in this year’s series, even penned her own song for the audition.

Jessie’s audition came 15 after Gareth Gates found fame on The X Factor’s predecessor, Pop Idol. Gareth also has a stutter but found it vanished completely while singing.

Jessie also finds this is the case when she is singing. Her stutter, which affects her speech, disappears when she opens her mouth to belt out a tune.

In 2017, Jessie spoke out about her X Factor audition. It came after she had enrolled with The McGuire Programme, which offers alternative therapy to people with a stutter.

Jessie said at the time: “‘I started singing and writing songs from the age of eight. I could never understand why, but when I sang I wouldn’t stutter.

“My mum would come upstairs to my room and listen to me sing. Sometimes, when I couldn’t tell her about my day, I would sing it.”

She added: “When my speech started to come back I thought, ‘I’m going to turn this around and make a positive out of what’s happened’. So I wrote this song called Control and even auditioned for The X Factor in May 2016.”

Jessie got through two rounds of X Factor auditions before she was eliminated from the competition.
