Britain’s Got Talent is back for Series 19 (February 21), and already, there have been complaints from ITV viewers over contestant Liwei minutes into the show.

Regular panelists Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon returned. Meanwhile, KSI, who made a guest appearance last year, has signed on as a full-time judge as Bruno Tonioli’s replacement.

However, despite its long-awaited comeback, fans were divided over more international talent being welcomed to the show…

Liwei wows Britain’s Got Talent judges

The first couple of auditions this series didn’t go down well with the panel. However, when Liwei took to the stage, they were reminded why the show is still worthwhile decades later.

Making her debut on BGT, 32-year-old performer Liwei explained she had flown from Taiwan. Noting how huge the show’s audience is, she expressed that she also wanted to have the opportunity to perform to King Charles.

For her act, Liwei balanced a huge, heavy pot and table and kept spinning it around with her feet. The catch? It was on fire.

The spectacular performance saw the audience and panel give the first standing ovation of the series.

“This is the first good audition of today,” Simon announced, describing it as “incredible” and admitting he hadn’t seen anything like it before.

Alesha said it was “visually stunning” and praised how “thrilling” and different it was.

‘I guess Britain doesn’t have talent!’

The public reacted online, and not everyone was impressed, with many complaining that the show is highlighting international talent rather than British talent.

“Let’s see what this year’s Britain’s Got International Talent brings,” one user wrote on X.

“This show just proves every time that Britain in fact has no talent lol,” another person shared.

“Not even 10 minutes in and Britain’s Got Talent is on a non-British talent – I guess Britain doesn’t have talent!” a third remarked.

‘It really isn’t that deep’

Meanwhile, others were less bothered about where the performers come from.

“Circus act with flame is always awesome to watch! Liwei is brilliant,” one said.

Looks like we’ve already found our #BritainsGotTalent 2026 winner,” another declared.

The usual moans about ‘foreign’ contestants on #BGT like it hasn’t always had people from all over the world on. It’s an entertainment show, it really isn’t that deep,” a third insisted.

“Might not be from Britain, but at least she actually came on with talent,” a fourth wrote.
