Olly Murs breaks silence on Masked Singer appearance following backlash: 'Sorry!'
Fans wanted more from the revealThe Masked Singer UK is getting so close to the final, but fans were left slightly disappointed to realise the Mole mystery wasn’t that exciting. And in fact, it actually just proved a lot of their Conkers theories wrong!
During Saturday night’s episode (January 31), host Joel Dommett immediately revealed The Mole’s identity, after announcing he was a “double agent”. In reality, it was just that week’s guest judge, and fans felt a bit annoyed that it wasn’t something more interesting.
Now, The Mole – revealed to be singer Olly Murs – has spoken out about getting to be on the show, while even apologising for any disappointment!
Olly Murs revealed to be The Mole on Masked Singer UK
At the very beginning of Saturday’s episode, Joel confirmed that the Mole would be immediately revealed.
The host said that Mole was “on his way” to the stage to reveal who he is. And it’s safe to say, it was a shock for everyone!
Many fans suspected Stephen Mulhern. But in reality, Mole removed his mask, revealing to be UK hit singer, Olly Murs. After he took the mask off, Joel asked if Olly would join the panel this week, making him this weekend’s celebrity guest judge.
However, it sparked some backlash from fans for two reasons. One, because they thought he was Conkers. And two, because they thought there would be more of an interesting reason for Mole.
One said online: “Why reveal him immediately? We weren’t that invested in him because it hasn’t been that long.”
“This makes my Conkers guess completely wrong!” one said. Another added: “Now I have to rethink my other guesses. I did not expect that. Wish we heard him sing!”
Olly breaks silence on TV role
But days after the shock Masked Singer reveal, UK hitmaker, Olly Murs has spoken out about getting to be a part of the show.
Taking to Instagram, Olly shared a bunch of photos from his time on the show. However, he started the caption by acknowledging the upset it had caused with some fans.
He wrote: “So sorry to disappoint you lot, but I am not the conker. I was Mole Dommett.
“I had an unreal night on The Masked Singer having another go at guessing the singers with Davina, Mo, Maya and JR! It’s such a giggle on and off camera, especially with Joel. Plus, those suits are no joke!”
Fans immediately flooded the comments, admitting that while their guesses were wrong, they were happy to see him on TV again.
One wrote: “Can we have you back next year as a permanent judge?”
An annoyed fan added: “I didn’t even know Mole was an option though. He was only in it for one week before.”
“I was so convinced you were Conkers. Can’t hear anyone else except for you!” a third added.
But while Olly isn’t competing, it was great to see him on our screens.
