Peaky Blinders is back with a “blood-soaked” bang following the announcement of TWO new series.

The hugely popular and gritty Birmingham-based drama is making its comeback, but this time it will be set in a different era.

With that comes an entirely new generation of the Shelby family – and viewers have been promised the continuation of the gangster saga will be “one hell of a ride”.

Peaky Blinders has been off screens for three years, since series 6 ended in 2022. But with the Peaky Blinders feature film just around the corner and now this, all our Christmases have come at once! Here’s everything we know about series 7 and 8 of Peaky Blinders, including plot, cast and start date.

What is the new plot in Peaky Blinders series 7?

Series 6 ended in the 1930s, before the Second World War had broken out. The Nazis were on the rise and Tommy had lived to see another day after staring death in the face. Viewers will know the anti-hero was convinced he was suffering from the brain condition tuberculoma. But it was, in fact, all a sick joke fabricated by Oswald Mosley and his cronies.

The two new series of Peaky Blinders will be set in an entirely different decade – 1953, to be precise. Birmingham is rising from the ashes of the war and the future is beginning to look brighter. Thanks to the concrete and steel industry, the city is undergoing an impressive post-war reconstruction.

You can therefore expect plenty of blood-shed and ganger antics as the Shelby family do all they can to ensure they are the ones in charge of Birmingham’s enormous regeneration project.

The BBC says in a synopsis of the plot: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel.

“In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Who stars in the new series of Peaky Blinders?

When it comes to the cast, the powers that be are currently keeping it tightly under wraps. But expect to see lots of new faces, given that the show has jumped forward two decades.

Lead character Cillian Murphy, who played the infamous Tommy Shelby, is back. However, it has been confirmed the award-winning Irish actor is taking on a different role. Cillian will be acting as an executive producer on the upcoming new series. Whether he also stars in the show remains to be seen.

Peaky Blinders creator and writer, Steven Knight, will also act as one of the crime drama’s executive producers. Sharing his excitement, Steven says: “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story.

“Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

Where will it be filmed?

Peaky Blinders is once again putting the West Midlands back on the worldwide map. Both new series will be filmed in and around Birmingham.

In fact, West Midland’s Mayor Richard Parker, is delighted by the impact the show has had on the local economy. Speaking about the upcoming series 7 and 8, Mayor Parker said: “Peaky Blinders is a worldwide phenomenon that’s boosted our tourism and global reach.

“We’re proud to be working with the team bringing the production back to the Shelbys’ home of Birmingham and job opportunities will follow for local people to become part of this story. It’s this sort of backing from some of the biggest names in entertainment that will turn the West Midlands into the creative capital of the UK.”

How many episodes will there be?

The two new series of Peaky Blinders will each comprise of the same number of episodes. They will both be six episodes long and each one will last 6o minutes.

This gives fans a total of 12 hours of Peaky Blinders to look forward too. We think this just about makes up for (what will then be) its four-year hiatus!

When’s the start date? How can I watch the new series of Peaky Blinders?

Series 7 and 8 of Peaky Blinders will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK. The show will also be available to stream on Netflix globally.

There is no confirmed return date for the show, but we are hoping it’ll be on screens next year.

When will the Peaky Blinders movie be released?

Filming for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man wrapped in December last year. The film is now in post-production and is due to be released on Netflix in 2026.

It is set in World War Two and stars Cillian Murphy, who returns as gangster Tommy. Writer Stephen Knight previously teased: “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”

By order of the Peaky Blinders, series 7 and 8 of the drama will follow on from the movie. Bring it on!
