Shakespeare & Hathaway series 5 episode 9 cast headlined by Doctor Who legend

His sonic screwdriver won't be of any use this time!

Shakespeare & Hathaway series 5 episode 9’s cast is one for all the Whovians out there.

The episode, entitled Daggers of the Mind, finds horror movie auteur Reynard Lennox being “terrorised by one of his own creations”.

His daughter, Imogen, can’t figure out whether her old man is simply losing his marbles or the “victim of a cruel campaign”, as there’s no shortage of workers wishing him ill on set.

All the while, the Horror-Upon-Avon convention is running a retrospective on Reynard’s filmography and Luella can’t wrap her head around Frank’s excitement.

There, the team meet convention organiser Mandir Choudhury, special effects expert James Colvy, and Reynard’s ex-wife Portia Frost. But when the legendary filmmaker is stabbed to death – seemingly by one of his own characters – the team race against DS Keeler to sniff out the culprit. Elsewhere, Sebastian trials a new receptionist named Regan Kernow.

Let’s dig into the Shakespeare & Hathaway series 5 episode 9 cast.

Doctor Who star Colin Baker plays murder victim Reynard Lennox

Doctor Who royalty steps in to play controlling filmmaker Reynard Lennox.

The 82-year-old’s defining role is, of course, the sixth incarnation of the Doctor. He played the famous character in the adored time-travelling BBC series between 1984 and 1986.

Only a year earlier, he’d appeared in the TV series as another character. He played Commander Maxil in the Peter Davison-era story Arc of Infinity. Baker clearly made a standout impression as Doctor Who bosses subsequently booked him as the next face of their show. His debut as The Doctor came right at the end of The Caves of Androzani before being fully unleashed in The Twin Dilemma.

Outside of that iconic franchise, the veteran camped in the Australian rainforest for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! back in 2012.

In the mid-1970s, Baker played the key part of Paul Merroney from series 4 to series 7 of drama The Brothers.

Since nabbing her first professional credit in 2017 in an instalment of detective series Father Brown, she moved onto a two-episode run as Carolyn Pride in the fourth season of The Crown.

After that came small jobs on McDonald & Dodds (which was cancelled by ITV earlier this year), investment banker drama Industry, jewel thief biopic Joan, and Channel 5’s Dalgleish.

The 31-year-old also appeared in the 2018 music video for Rick Astley tune She Makes Me. She also voices the character Millicent in acclaimed video game Elden Ring.

Series 5 of Shakespeare & Hathaway nabs a Hollywood star. Sarah Douglas guest stars as Portia Frost, an actress who was at one time married to Reynard.

The 72-year-old actress reached huge stardom in the late 1970s after going up against Christopher Reeve’s Superman as the evil Ursa. She returned for the 1980 sequel before working alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1984 blockbuster Conan the Destroyer.

Following those glamorous Hollywood years, which also saw her recur as Pamela Lynch in the CBS soap Falcon Crest, the Stratford-Upon-Avon local carved out a cushy path as a voice actor. She took part in superhero-based titles like Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

On home soil, Sarah has flitted between jobs on Emmerdale, Holby City, Doctors, and Bergerac.

Ben played Scott Windsor on the ITV soap. Scott had been in the army for two years before returning to the village, with Toby Cockerell having played the character beforehand.

In 2021, the 45-year-old was part of a seven-episode EastEnders arc as the mysterious Caleb Malone. More recently, he played a morally ambiguous rock star in Murder Most Puzzling.
