Sheridan Smith has opened up about why she doesn’t want to appear on the next series of Celebrity Traitors.

It’s fair to say actress Sheridan has remained booked and busy in recent years. From stints on Benidorm and The Royle Family to her recent role in the 2025 ITV hit I Fought The Law, she has rarely remained off screens.

But it seems there is one show that Sheridan is not keen to take part in. Speaking on a podcast recently, she revealed the reason behind not wanting to appear on Celebrity Traitors.

Sheridan Smith addresses Celebrity Traitors stint

In a recent interview on The Romesh Ranganathan Show podcast, Sheridan revealed that as much as she loves Celebrity Traitors, she doesn’t want to sign up to the second series.

The telly star admitted she would “petrified” to take part and would be “crying” thinking her fellow contestants were talking about her.

“I love the show but it’s everything I’m petrified of. I’ll be like, ‘What did that person say about me? ‘Why did they just leave the room?'” Sheridan said.

She added: “My anxiety would be heightened. I’d go under, I’d be crying.”

The mum-of-one then revealed she would be a “rubbish” Traitor as she “can’t lie”. Sheridan explained: “If I was a Traitor I’d be like, ‘It’s me, I’m sorry, I can’t lie.’ I’d be rubbish.”

Celebrity Traitors series 2

Late last year, the first-ever celebrity version of the iconic BBC show took the UK by storm. The fantastic first season line-up, included the likes of Stephen Fry, Clare Balding, Cat Burns and the incredible winner, Alan Carr.

And while the official line-up for Celebrity Traitors series two hasn’t been announced yet, speculation is rife about who could be taking part.

The latest name in the mix is acting legend Hugh Grant. An insider told The Sun: “They know landing Hugh would be a huge coup but think he would be a brilliant addition. Bosses are determined not to get the same tired reality stars who sign up to every series going.”

Another name fans would love to see in the castle is Alison Hammond. The This Morning star first found fame on Big Brother, so reality TV is nothing new to her.

The Sun has reported that Alison is now in final talks to appear on Celebrity Traitors. A source claimed: “Alison is on the BBC’s hit list for Celebrity Traitors, and she is keen.”

Sheridan’s anxiety struggles

Sheridan has been open about her struggles with anxiety and mental health, particularly following the death of her dad.

In 2016, Sheridan’s father, Colin, was diagnosed with cancer. However, he tragically died in December of that year at age 80.

During an appearance on Lorraine in 2018, Sheridan openly admitted she really struggled following Colin’s death.

“I was spiralling out of control and I was making mistakes, doing things I really regret because I wasn’t in my right frame of mind, so I kind of understand that will get backlash and people will think, “What’s going on?”,” she said.

“My anxiety started with Legally Blonde. It’s like imposter syndrome and then you think, this can’t be happening to me because I’m not good enough.
