'Jaw-dropping' social experiment Apocalypse is coming to Channel 4 and it's like nothing you've seen before
The fight for survival is onChannel 4 is preparing to drop 16 ordinary people into a simulated end-of-the-world crisis for a “jaw-dropping” new social experiment show, Apocalypse.
The new series will place its participants in an abandoned American town transformed to look as though it has survived the end of the world.
They will have no running water, electricity or food waiting for them.
Instead, the strangers must spend 28 days scavenging for supplies and finding new uses for anything left behind.
Sounds good, right?!
Apocalypse on Channel 4: Who is in it?
The line-up for Apocalypse is a selection of brave members of the public. There are no famous faces here.
Their names are yet to be revealed, but we do know what some of them do for a living. The participants include a politician, farmer, black cab driver and a content creator.
Once dropped, they will be divided into two groups named Westside and Eastside. However, neither side will initially know that the other exists.
That set-up means the groups will separately attempt to secure the limited resources available around the town. Cooperation within each camp will be crucial – but the discovery of their neighbours is set to change everything.
The tension comes to a head when Eastside reaches the town’s only supermarket before Westside and clears it out. With supplies scarce, the move pushes the two groups into direct conflict.
The experiment will examine how people behave when familiar comforts disappear and survival depends on strangers working together. Will they share what they have and form one community, or will the fight for resources drive them further apart?
With clashing personalities, separate groups and an unforgiving setting, Apocalypse looks set to put its cast’s practical skills and relationships under serious strain.
When does Apocalypse start? How many episodes?
Apocalypse is due to air this autumn, according to Channel 4. A specific date is yet to be confirmed but it is likely to start in September.
The show will be available to watch on television and also on Channel 4’s streaming service. There will be seven episodes in the series.
