Strictly Come Dancing: 'Distraught' Sara Davies receives backlash over Vicky Pattison support

Sara has been warned 'perspective is needed'

Vicky Pattison‘s showbiz pal Sara Davies has received a surprise backlash after offering the Strictly Come Dancing casualty her support following her exit.

The Dragons’ Den star, 41, reached out to fellow Geordie Vicky after she and Kai Widdrington were eliminated from Strictly last night.

Sara said she is “distraught” to see 38-year-old Vicky out of the BBC show, especially as she has tickets to Blackpool this weekend. The crafting queen also said she “cried” and is “heartbroken” – because Vicky was voted out on her birthday weekend.

But not all fans have agreed with Sara’s message of support. Some viewers have hit back over Sara’s suggestion that Vicky’s birthday was somehow ‘ruined’ by her Strictly downfall.

Strictly Come Dancing: Sara Davies offers support to Vicky Pattison

Sara, who herself competed in Strictly in 2021, wrote on Facebook: “I am utterly distraught for our @vickypattison. I’ve just watched the end of the @bbcstrictly results show sat there crying my eyes out with her.

“She has been absolutely incredible throughout the whole run of Strictly and honestly embodies everything this show is about. It just shows how unpredictable the competition is – it’s too close to call every single week!”

Sara went on: “It just proves you HAVE to vote for your favourites every single week to make sure they go through! And I’m doubly gutted because I’ve got tickets for Blackpool next weekend and I was banking on my girl going through, along with my boy @aljazskorjanec and @lavoixtheshow. At least one of them made it through… but still!

“I’m absolutely devastated for her – and even worse, it’s her birthday today. She’s probably having the (bleep-est) birthday ever and my heart just breaks for her.”

But not everyone agreed with Sara’s sentiments.

One Strictly fan replied: “Definitely not the (bleep-est) birthday ever! I can think of a million examples as to why that isn’t accurate. She’s done very well on a tv show where the competition gets super tight towards the end and there’s barely anything between them, and somebody has to go home.

“Disappointing to miss out on Blackpool sure, but she is loved, she is healthy, she is safe, she is well, and she just had a whale of a time learning a beautiful new skill. None of that constitutes the worst birthday ever.”

Another agreed: “Yes, the (bleep-est) birthday is when you are told you have cancer, or lose a loved one. Not losing a dancing competition. Perspective is needed.” And a third said: “Meanwhile there are people who will have had real trauma this weekend.”

Others, however, backed Sara for her message. One told the businesswoman: “So well said Sara. Vicky has been a breath of fresh air and has proved that you can go from a non dancer to a fabulous dancer, which is what Strictly should be about. Totally gutted for her.”

Someone else wrote: “I absolutely love her, I was gutted that she was in the dance off too – I voted for her and like you cried with her.”

Strictly: Vicky and Kai’s elimination

Vicky and Kai had lasted 8 weeks in Strictly Come Dancing. But the Jive was their downfall. The pair, who had topped the Week 7 leaderboard with a Tango the previous Saturday, found themselves at the bottom of it.

The couple could not be saved by the public vote, either. Vicky and Kai went head-to-head with Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon in the dance-off during Sunday night’s Strictly: Results show.

The judges unanimously voted to save EastEnders star Balvinder. This is despite it being the fourth time she has been in the dance-off.

This weekend’s Strictly is the Blackpool special. Balvinder and her fellow remaining celebs will be competing at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
