The Chase returned to our screens yesterday (January 28) with a new episode, and viewers are demanding a new format.

Host Bradley Walsh returned and welcomed four new players — Katheryn, Paddy, Kamal and Savannah — who all went head-to-head with Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast.

On Wednesday afternoon, Online teacher Katheryn was the first to step up to the podium. She impressed viewers with a score of £6,000 in the cash-builder round.

However, despite doing well, she opted to go with the low offer of £600 in the head-to-head round and returned to her team.

Maths teacher Paddy was the next to face the quiz expert and impressed early on. He banked a hefty £7,000 in the cash builder before narrowly managing to defend it during a tense head-to-head, adding to the team’s total.

He was followed by businessman Kamal, who collected £4,000 in the cash builder. However, he chose to mirror Katheryn’s earlier approach.

After consulting with the rest of the group, Kamal opted for the low £400 offer and successfully fought his way into the final round.

Rounding off the lineup was Savannah, who backed herself by playing for her own total and took on the Chaser with an impressive £5,000 at stake.

All four contestants made it through to the final chase, carrying a combined prize fund of £13,000. During the Final Chase, the team delivered a strong performance in the closing game, rattling off 22 correct answers in just two minutes.

Chaser Mark struggled to keep up and answered only 15 questions correctly. As a result, the players divided the money evenly, sending them home with £3,250 each.

‘The low offer should be scrapped’

Despite all four contestants reaching the final round and taking home a sum of money each, many were unimpressed with half the team taking the lower offer.

WTF is going on with #TheChase? Why are so many contestants now taking low offers?” one user asked on X.

“I hate folk that have a decent cash builder then take the low offer,” another person shared.

“Just think what they could have won,” a third insisted.

Others insisted a change needs to be made to its format.

“To stop these low offers, the producers should change it so you only get what you bank, that would make the show more interesting. IMO,” one said.

“This programme needs cancelling or removing all the pathetic low offer morons,” another said.

Meanwhile, a third echoed: “The low offer should be scrapped.”
