The Crow Girl filming locations: Thriller is set and shot in buzzing university city famous for its street art

The Crow Girl fans have plenty to look forward to this month, as Channel 5 gives series 1 its free-to-air premiere while Paramount+ streams series 2 for the first time – and the new episodes return to the same filming locations.
The first season of the psychological drama aired on Paramount+ in 2025, and fans loved the ridiculously addictive storyline. It introduced dogged DCI Jeanette Kilburn. Authorities called her to investigate when unidentified young men started turning up dead, their bodies beaten and filled with the anaesthetic lidocaine.
The detective enlisted the help of psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven to hunt the killer. And the investigation subsequently took them down a dangerous path of historical abuse, murder and dark secrets…
Safe to say, it was full of twists and turns, with one explosive bombshell that left the upcoming series wide open. But what filming locations did cast and crew use in series 1 and 2 of the thriller? Here’s everything you need to know.
Where is The Crow Girl set?
The Crow Girl is actually based on Erik Axl Sund’s book of the same name. The Swedish author set the crime thriller in Stockholm, Sweden, but the TV series relocates its original setting to the UK.
In the six-part series, DCI Jeanette Kilburn and partner DI Lou Stanley hunt for a killer after the bodies of unidentified young men show up around Bristol.
Filming in Bristol was a home from home for leading actress Eve Myles, who was born less than two hours ago in Powys, Wales.
As well as filming both series of The Crow Girl in Bristol, the Welsh actress also set camp in the university city when she played DS Annie Cassidy in the recent crime drama Gone.
In fact, the cast and crew of both Gone and The Crow Girl filmed at The Bottle Yard Studios. It’s the largest film and TV studio in the West of England. Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, Can You Keep a Secret?, Down Cemetery Road, The Forsytes, and Rivals have all used the studios in the past few years.
Where is The Crow Girl filmed?
As well as setting The Crow Girl in Bristol, the cast and crew filmed exclusively in the city, too. The historic city is located on the River Avon, and bordered by Gloucestershire to the north and Somerset to the south. It has a short coastline on the Bristol Channel. The city’s surrounding waterways have given it a rich maritime history and a bustling port at its centre. The harbour’s 19th-century warehouses now contain restaurants, shops and art galleries.
It’s a buzzing university city known for its street art. In fact, locals know that the whole area is famous for its art. It is the hometown of the famous anonymous artist Banksy, with his work and other graffiti art decorating city walls. Just recently, Lonely Planet named the city one of the top 50 destinations in their Best in Travel 2026.
Bristol is also famous for its iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, which features multiple times in the thriller. Other notable tourist attractions include the floating harbour, and science museum We The Curious.

What key filming locations were used in The Crow Girl?
- Cast and crew of The Crow Girl series 1 and 2 filmed in The Bottle Yard Studios, which served as a primary production hub for the series. It’s conveniently located on the Southern edge of the city.
- Production also filmed scenes in Bristol city centre, Castle Park, Castle Bridge, and the surrounding St Jude’s area.
- The police-HQ – Bristol Metropolitan Police station – was actually a set built inside the former Bank of England building. It’s located on Wine Street, on the edge of Castle Park, in the centre of the city.
- Viewers might also recognise Bristol’s Harbourside, including Queens Square and Princes Wharf.
- Other Local Landmarks featured in The Crow Girl are The Gold Bar on Corn Street, Sunshine Café in Bedminster, Greenbank Cemetery, and The Royal Hotel in Avonmouth.
- Further afield, filming locations also included nearby coastal spots, including the Brean Downs and Brean beach in Somerset.
- The Crow Girl filming locations include Welsh Back. It’s a historic, 450-metre-long wharf and street lining the eastern side of Bristol’s Floating Harbour, stretching between Bristol Bridge and Redcliffe Bridge.
- Babington House, a luxurious 33-bedroom private members’ club and hotel, is the gorgeous building with a pool where the girls were taken to be abused. It’s set within an 18th-century manor in Frome, Somerset (about a 30-minute drive from Bath). The estate offers two pools, a Cowshed spa, padel courts, and a cinema.
- The Church of All Saints in Long Ashton, Somerset, is a 14th century Anglican building featuring a prominent tower. It’s the location in The Crow Girl series 2 episode 2 where Sophia wakes up disorientated.
- Another grand house, which poses as Beecham College, is Grittleton House. It’s a beautiful Grade II Listed Manor House, set amongst breathtaking countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds.
The Crow Girl filming locations: ‘Bristol is a great place to shoot’
Director Charles Martin describes how filming in Bristol lend itself to the series. He said: “Bristol is a great place to shoot. And it’s perfect for The Crow Girl for a number of reasons. I would say that blood and water are two of our motifs in series 2, and Bristol is a gift if you want to shoot water. It’s surrounded by rivers, there are lots of lakes, there are lots of ponds, and there’s a lot of water.”
He added: “I also like the fact that Bristol is full of juxtaposition. It has a lot of old money architecture; it is a wealthy city built on quite nefarious trading in days of old. Then there is quite a lot of Brutalist architecture. Plus, over the past 20 years, it’s been grafted and inked to within an inch of its life. So there’s quite contrasting styles of architecture and life there.”
Meanwhile, Katherine Kelly – who plays Dr Sophia Craven – admitted she was thrilled to return for series 2 of The Crow Girl. She said: “It’s always a joy to go back to a successful show, so it’s fantastic to come back to a set where that’s the case. I love working with Eve Myles, with whom I do most of my scenes, and Clara Rugaard is fab. Bristol, where the series is set, is fantastic, and the crew’s amazing. So, it’s just really nice to revisit because you don’t always get to do that.”
