The Graham Norton Show: Who’s on tonight

Graham is welcoming our favourite Kirkby native to the show tonight; none other than actor Stephen Graham.

The Adolescence star, his cast mates and the crew of the Netflix show are fresh from collecting an impressive array of awards and Graham is quick to congratulate him.

Stephen says: “It’s been so surreal, we never expected it. We just caught something in the zeitgeist and its success has been unbelievable.

“Erin (Doherty) says, ‘it is the gift that keeps on giving’.”

Last month, Owen Cooper, 16, became the youngest ever winner of a Golden Globe for his role in the gritty drama.

“The awards have been wonderful, but the impact it has had on social awareness is incredible,” Stephen adds. “It has achieved more than I could have ever dreamed of.”

Stephen has two things to tell Graham about tonight. One is his new thriller, The Good Boy. The other is his new book, Letters to our Sons.

Stephen describes his new movie as “a strange little film”. Speaking of his book, he reveals it is based on Adolescence.

The Brit actor adds: “The scale of it is massive – it spans every walk of life, every subject matter, and every sort of father son relationship. It is something I am very proud of.”

Who else is on?

Graham is also joined in the studio by The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco. Kaley is quick to poke fun at her fiancé, actor Tom Pelphrey, by revealing that he’d never watched The Big Bang Theory before they had met – and he still hasn’t!

“The first time I met Tom’s family his mom’s partner kept calling me ‘Penny’. I didn’t say anything because I thought it was sweet, but I could see Tom looking confused,” she explains.

“When we got in the car he said, ‘I am so sorry, I told him your name so I’ve no idea why he called you Penny all day’. I had to explain it was from the show.”

Kaley is in a new mystery Prime Video series called Vanished.

Meanwhile, Olivier award-winner Adrian Lester is in the house. He’ll be talking to Graham all about the prosthetic nose he has to wear in the stage adaption of Cyrano de Bergerac.

Adrian admits: “I can’t turn too sharply on stage as I have the constant fear it will fly off!”

White Lotus’ Leo Woodall

Leo Woodall, famed for White Lotus and One Day, is also stopping by for a chat with Graham. Leo is starring in new age-gap comedy, Vladimir, alongside Rachel Weisz.

He’s also got a new movie called movie Tuner coming out. Leo stars opposite Dustin Hoffman in that.

But Graham wants to know about One Day – and why Leo almost missed out on the part of Dexter.

“I nearly didn’t do it because I was filming White Lotus and was covered in fake tattoos when I auditioned for One Day,” he reveals.

“They thought the Cowabunga one on my neck was real. I had two weeks between roles to lose weight, change from an Essex accent to Dexter’s posh voice, and remove all the tattoos, which is a lot harder than you’d think.”

What time is The Graham Norton Show on?

Graham’s final guests of the night will be the noughties virtual band Gorillaz, featuring Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar. They will perform Orange County live in the studio.

As usual, Graham will want to grab the musicians for a chat, too. This means Gorillaz creator, Blur star Damon Albarn, will be having a natter alongside Kara and Anoushka. Great!

The Graham Norton Show starts at 10.40pm tonight on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The show runs until 11.30pm, ending with Graham’s famous red chair of stories!
