The Masked Singer fans are calling for a change to the show’s format, in order to keep it fresh and new. Because many fear that it won’t last much longer if something doesn’t change.

Starting in 2020, The Masked Singer has kept fans all around the UK entertained for a few weeks every year. And when it started, it was such a new and interesting format that fans couldn’t keep away!

But now, six years later, it appears some fans are growing tired of the repetition, and actually want the show to change.

What is The Masked Singer?

Hosted by Joel Dommett, each week, celebrities take to the stage in extravagant costumes and masks to hide their identities. They each perform for the judges – Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Maya Jama, while everyone tries to work out who is under the mask.

However, unlike quite a lot of other talent shows on ITV, The Masked Singer actually isn’t live. Instead, it’s all recorded months prior, and the studio audience is in charge of who stays and who goes.

This means it is very easy for leaks to happen, and for fans to release some things a bit early, like when they teased the Mole on a reddit thread.

But that’s not the only things fans are annoyed about. Many just feel like the show may have had its time. Unless it changes something big.

Fans call for format change

Taking to a Reddit thread, The Masked Singer fans discussed the possibility that the show could actually come to an end. And it appears many think it is a possibility.

One fan penned: “Anyone else think it is reaching the end? Don’t get me wrong, I like the UK version, but the ratings have tanked. It makes me wonder if it might not continue. This version is honestly getting more stale since Maya joined the panel.”

Another admitted: “I think we will get one more year out of it.”

A third called for something new. They penned: “I think they need to reconsider the format. There is too much padding between singing and clues, and adverts to account for as well. The judging panel is alright, but I feel like it needs to be more lovable now.

“Competing with The Traitors at the start of the season probably didn’t help this year. But, I also can’t be bothered to catch up with the episodes I have missed. There is too much filler.”

“I have lost interest this year,” another agreed. “Started the first few episodes, then missed some and didn’t catch up. I have watched a few clips, but I am not bothered to watch the whole thing.”

Another explained: “It’s getting a bit repetitive and childish. I get it’s a show for kids too but the good ones come in around eighth place while others get a free pass to the semi-finals.”

Some fans, however, love the show. A

nd while they agree changes could be made, they don’t want it to end.

One penned: “Before I say anything negative, I love this show. I love the concept and love playing along at home. The madness of the costumes, is all great.

“However, too much of the judges. Things like cutting to them singing while the act is on stage needs to stop. The clue packages are also more vague than ever.”

One fan argued: “I hope it doesn’t end. This show is part of my routine now.”

So, while fans remain uncertain over the future of The Masked Singer, we don’t have long until we find out who has won this year’s series!
