The Night Manager series 2: What time episode 3 is on tonight and what happened last week
Will Jonathan gain Teddy's trust, or will it all go wrong?
The Night Manager series 2 returns tonight with Episode 3, with Jonathan Pine firmly in Teddy’s orbit – make sure you know what time it airs and catch yourself up on the last episodes.
The first episode of the second series opened on a grim, but necessary note. A few years after he was driven away to his painful fate, Jonathan and Angela Burr identify the body of Hugh Laurie’s Richard Roper.
Flash forward to the present day, and Jonathan – sorry, Alex Goodwin – is the head of MI6’s aptly named Night Owls unit. However, it doesn’t take long before he finds a connection to Roper, and it leads him to his “true disciple”.
So, if you can’t wait for the next episode of The Night Manager series 2, you’re in the right place.

Is all of The Night Manager series 2 on BBC iPlayer?
You can stream new episodes of The Night Manager series 2 on BBC iPlayer before they air on BBC One (or you can catch up whenever you have time to watch it). Episode 3 is available to stream now.
However, unlike Waterloo Road series 17, the entire season isn’t available to binge on iPlayer. If you’ve clocked that it’s streaming on Amazon Prime in other territories and thinking you could use a VPN, you’re out luck: it’s dropping weekly on there too.

What happened in episodes 1 and 2?
In episode 1, during one of his Night Owl shifts, Jonathan notices a familiar face: Jaco, one of Roper’s henchmen. He raises it to Rex, his boss, but he urges Jonathan to ignore it.
Later, after Jonathan shadows Jaco and his contact Adam (who’s referred to as the “alternative foreign office”), it raises suspicions about one of Jonathan’s bosses, Mayra.
However, soon after Rex calls Jonathan to tell him he has “something to show him”, he dies. Jonathan refuses to believe it was suicide, and when he calls Rex’s new number, it leads him to a phone hidden in a Trees of Old England book.
Long story short, the clues within lead him to Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva, a new addition to The Night Manager series 2 cast). He says he’s an entrepreneur and philanthropist, but he’s actually Roper’s son with a penchant for arms dealing and criminality.

Jonathan enlists the Night Owls to spy on him in Barcelona. Teddy senses he’s being surveilled, so he kills two of the agents and blows up a hotel.
In episode 2, Jonathan takes on a new identity – Mathew Ellis, a Hong Kong financier – to get closer to Teddy. Things go somewhat smoothly, and he ends up at Teddy’s house with Roxana (she runs his ‘shipping business’).
Teddy offers to make Jonathan a lot of money if they work together. He asks for time to think about it, but things take a turn when he drinks a spiked drink. He collapses into the pool, and Teddy asks him some pretty damning questions, testing whether or not he’s telling the truth.
Amazingly, Jonathan stays in character as Mathew and even makes up a story about how he stole money from the bank.
What to expect in The Night Manager episode 3
That’s where we left things, so we can expect episode 3 to develop Teddy and Jonathan’s relationship.
According to the BBC’s synopsis, “Pine gains Teddy’s trust and secretly finds the proof he needs to connect the Cartagena shipment to covert British intelligence interests”.
However, this is when “things start to go wrong”. Spoilers will make their way online thick and fast, so make sure you don’t miss it this weekend.
