The Traitors has fans in a frenzy trying to work out who the Secret Traitor is and some have now claimed that the BBC accidentally ‘revealed’ it.

Multiple viewers have alleged they learned who is under the red cloak due to a supposed blunder.

They claimed that the highly-anticipated fourth episode of The Traitors was briefly uploaded to BBC iPlayer on Sunday night.

The same fans have said it was swiftly taken down – but not before they had started watching it.

The Traitors: Secret Traitor identity ‘leaked’ according to some fans

News of the alleged accidental spoiler has come to light in a Facebook group dedicated to The Traitors UK.

One viewer claims she had fallen asleep while watching episode 3 on BBC iPlayer before waking up in the middle of episode 4.

The woman explained to the group’s 28,000 followers: “I fell asleep watching The Traitors (episode 3) on catch up on Sunday night. I woke up during the 4th episode when the Secret Traitor was being revealed.

“Went back to sleep and went to watch the full episode yesterday only to find it hasn’t been released yet. I’m now so confused as to whether it was a glitch on BBC iPlayer and I watched episode 4 earlier or if it was a VERY vivid dream.”

Fellow Traitors fans were quick to reply, with others also claiming to have seen the fourth episode on iPlayer.

“No, you’re right. There was 4 episodes of The Traitors on and then the 4th disappeared. I thought I was the only one who had seen this,” one person commented.

Another viewer added: “I saw it too. Not the episode, just that there were 4 on the app. Then about half an hour later, there were 3.”

And someone else said: “Ahhh, I knew I had seen 4 eps on the iPlayer menu. I thought I had imagined it!”

The original poster decided to name the Secret Traitor in the comments section of the post.

She then added: “Edit, so three other people have confirmed that episode 4 was available for a short period on the app before it disappeared. Mystery solved!”

TVGuide has contacted the BBC for comment.

The Secret Traitor reveal

The Secret Traitor has been the main subject of discussion among fans of the BBC show since the series 4 launch last week.

Host Claudia Winkleman opened the show by revealing the huge twist. She then went on to pick Rachel, Hugo and Stephen to be Traitors, before tapping a fourth person on the shoulder. Their face was obscured from view.

Rachel, Stephen and Hugo (who has now been banished) were told there is a fourth Traitor. But Rachel and Stephen still don’t know his or her identity.

Fans have been desperately trying to work out who it is. Fingers have pointed at crime author Harriet, psychologist Ellie and even Claudia herself.

The mystery will finally be solved to the nation tonight (Wednesday January 7, 2026) when the fourth episode airs on BBC One at 8pm.

Then we’ll all learn the actual identity of the Secret Traitor, just as the BBC intended.
