'So smug!' Traitors fans divided over James’ 'sneaky' move
Fans don't know if it was smart or wrongThe Traitors have been left conflicted over their opinions on James, after he went against his own team during the challenge.
It truly is everyone for themselves on The Traitors, but sometimes you do have to work as a team in order to get a bit further. That was the case in last night’s episode – before Harriet was banished – (January 14) when contestants had the opportunity to get more money in the jackpot.
However, while they could add to it, they could also take from it. As players could take a ‘shield’ which would protect them from the next murder. And while most groups created a plan, James decided to put himself above his team.

What did James do?
Last night, the players were once again split into teams and had to find a series of statues. Each time they found one, one player from that team had the opportunity to take the ‘shield’ that was hidden underneath.
In total, seven players took shields. And that left everyone confused, and shocked. But the ones who were shocked the most, were James’ team. And this was down to the fact none of them even knew he took one.
James waited until the rest of his team weren’t looking, and then he decided to protect himself. However, this didn’t go down well with the rest of his team – particularly Sam and Adam.
They had all agreed to not reveal which team member had the shield, that way the whole team would be protected. But when it came out that two of them had it, it meant the others weren’t safe.
At first, James tried to hide that it was him by lying. But once he realised how badly people had taken it, he came clean to his team. And they urged him to not tell anyone else otherwise it will backfire on them.
Following the scenes, Traitors fans couldn’t work out if James was in the right for looking after himself, or if he was just greedy to win.

Traitors fans left divided over decision
Taking to a Reddit thread, fans discussed the decision, and it’s clear there is a huge divide. And with some already suspecting James had won the show, it’s looking like it might have paid off for him.
One fan said on the thread: “Justice for James. I think he actually helped his team by taking a shield. Sam is wrong for thinking otherwise.”
Another agreed: “I really don’t blame him for taking it. He’s pretty much a certified Faithful.”
However, others disagreed. An annoyed fan wrote: “He is going to feel very smug tomorrow if they try to murder him tonight..”
Another added: “The sneakiness blindsided everyone. If the Traitors were paying closer attention it would have been an easy deduction because of how the others reacted. But ironically, it does cement James as a Faithful because only one of them would do it.”
One said on X: “James is the worst Faithful I have ever seen.”
“Now that people have clocked James, can they not banish him?” another asked.
