James had swiped the shield to give himself immunity from murder earlier this week but kept it a secret from his team.
After coming under pressure when they all realised one was missing, James confessed to what he had done.
But Roxy – who wasn’t even on his team – has been particularly vocal in condemning him for his actions.

In last night’s show, Roxy had another pop at James at the breakfast table.
She said: “James, I just have to ask, what were you thinking about deceiving your small group? Why didn’t you say, ‘Guys, I’m desperate for a shield’? No one is ever going to have a problem with that, to be honest.
“I have been a bit suspicious of you and I feel I can’t not look at you now because that was deceptive behaviour.”
Later at the Round Table, she voted for James, saying: “I just struggle to get past the shield thing.”
But fans have been left fuming as Roxy pulled off one of the biggest deceptions in The Traitors so far this series.
The recruiter signed up to the show with her mum Judy Wilson. And none of the players left in the castle know this.
Judy was first to be banished from the show, but the fact they hid their relationship has angered viewers.
Writing on X, one fan fumed: “Not Roxy being annoyed that someone didn’t tell the group he had a shield when she didn’t tell the whole group her mum was there.”
Another added: “Roxy – ‘Oh my god, James, I can’t believe you lied about taking the shield. That’s so deceitful and dishonest’.
“Also Roxy – ‘Ah yeah, my mum was in here from the start but I’m going to lie to everyone about it’.”
Over on Reddit, someone else remarked: “It’s hypocritical of her to go after James for dishonesty when she is hiding a secret of her own.”
Who is facing murder next?
In last night’s show (Thursday January 15), Sam Little was banished at the Round Table. He received the majority of votes despite being a Faithful.
Sam revealed his identity to the group and said: “What a ride. Apart from being billy no mates in the cage, I’ve had the best time.
“You’re all amazing and I wish you all the best of luck. But right now, I just want to go and see my wife.”
Traitors Rachel and Stephen later headed to the Turret as darkness fell. They were once again given the option to seduce a new Traitor, but have chosen to murder again.
They have narrowed their victims down to either Jessie Stride, Matty Hyndman or Faraaz Noor.
