Traitors winner Rachel Duffy has announced her beloved mum Anne has died.

Rachel, 42, confirmed the tragic news on social media just days after she was seen winning the BBC show with Stephen Libby.

The star had been vocal about how she wanted to use her £47, 875 in winnings to treat Anne to a holiday.

But taking to Instagram today, Rachel wrote: “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our wee mummy.

“We kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves during this difficult time.”

The Traitors: Rachel Duffy’s mum dead

Rachel’s mum Anne was living in a care home and suffered with both Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

She had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s when she was just 47 years old.

During this year’s run of The Traitors, Rachel had shared a picture of Anne sitting in her home while holding a special T-shirt. The white top was emblazoned with: “My daughter is a Traitor.”

At the time, Rachel told her Instagram followers: “‘Don’t get caught!’

“Words of wisdom from my wee mummy Anne who is not only my motivation on The Traitors but my inspiration in real life.

“
Mummy was just 47 when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s (4 years older than I am now) and now faces dementia but still amazes me and my family every single day.

“Everything she has done for me and my four siblings is nothing short of incredible. Sharing caring responsibilities over the years for her has been a privilege and we are so proud to call her our mum.

“She wanted to show off her T-shirt – so say hi and be kind or I might just murder you.”

Rachel had received a message from Alzheimers Association on her post. The charity wrote: “Thank you so much for sharing your story, Rachel. If you ever need any support or advice, we’re here for you.”

Rachel’s plans for her mum Anne

Rachel entered the show saying she had hoped to win for her mum Anne.

She then reiterated this during Friday night’s final in a last chat with Claudia Winkleman. She spoke about what it would mean to win the show.

Claudia had said to Rachel: “Let’s talk about your mum.”

Rachel replied: “When you know her memories are going and you have the opportunity to help her create the nicest ones ever, that is very precious. So I’m going to win it if Stephen’s head doesn’t get turned by the money.”

Fellow Traitor Stephen’s head was not turned and they won a joint total of £95, 750 in prize money.

Yesterday, Stephen appeared on ITV’s This Morning to talk about their win and Rachel was noticeably absent.
