The Walsh Sisters on BBC One: The key filming locations in Ireland that bring Marian Keyes' book to life
Viewers are treated to the picturesque world of suburban Ireland
The Walsh Sisters wouldn’t be right if it was set anywhere else but Ireland – and Marian Keyes, who created the BBC series and books, made sure every filming location was perfect.
In the new six-part drama, the Walsh family are being brought to the screen for the first time. Luckily for us, they’re just as chaotic as they are in the books. From heartbreak to rehab, new beginnings to fond farewells, the five central sisters will take you on one hell of a journey as they navigate life together.
On top of that, viewers are treated to the picturesque world of suburban Ireland. What’s not to love?
Here are all the key filming locations of The Walsh Sisters, and where to find them.

Where is The Walsh Sisters set?
The Walsh Sisters is based in and around Dublin. Anna and Rachel live in a flat together in the city, Maggie and Claire have their own family homes, while Mammy and Daddy live on a suburban street with their youngest daughter, Helen, hosting family dinner every Saturday so the girls can catch up.
To capture a feeling of true Irish life, the production team shot the entire series on location, rather than in a studio. Filming took place over a period of 11 weeks, wrapping in April 2025.
This included taking over family homes, hitting some of Dublin’s hidden-gem historical sites, and – especially for Rachel’s storyline – heading into some of Dublin’s bars.

The Walsh Sisters filming locations: Terenure College and Mammy and Daddy’s house
Mammy and Daddy’s house is a real home in Terenure, a middle-class residential neighbourhood just to the south of Dublin City Centre.
For the show, they even created the Department of Silence and Calm Affairs – a shed at the bottom of the family garden, where Daddy retreats to escape the chaos of the women in his life.
Author Marian Keyes noted how that one touch was special to her, as it reminded her of her own daddy.
“My dad would have loved a man shed,” she told the Irish Times. “Somewhere to watch the golf in peace, that’s all he asked for. He would have locked the door and eaten crisps and chocolate and been in here for hours.”
The show also set up its base in Terenure College’s grounds, which was founded by the Carmelite Order in 1860. It is part of the Leinster Branch of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU). So they’re famed for their rugby teams! As a result, the historic 50-acre grounds are known for their rugby pitches, as well as forests and lakes.

The Walsh Sisters’ Central Dublin filming locations
Rachel and Anna love a party. In fact, they’re regulars at a number of bars… and that becomes a problem for Rachel as the show progresses.
Key scenes of the show were shot in Dublin’s bars as a result. This includes Zozimus Bar on Anne Street South (just off the famous shopping district, Grafton Street). If you need to find it, just look for the colourful umbrellas it sits under!
Zozimus is known for its Asian-fusion-inspired menu, and prides itself on its creative cocktails. So if you fancy somewhere fancy for a night out, they’ve got you covered!
Iveagh Gardens, which were dubbed Dublin’s Secret Garden by BBC Gardener’s Corner, are also used for scenes where the girls catch up and fill each other in on the most recent drama. Designed by Ninian Niven in 1865, the garden is known for its tranquil atmosphere, and a waterfall feature made up of stones from all 32 counties in Ireland. Perfect for a coffee chat with a sibling.

Luttrellstown Castle, Castleknock, County Dublin
Luttrellstown Castle – a 15th-century castle – is home to some huge scenes in the later half of the series. (But don’t worry… no spoilers here!).
It’s now a five-star luxury private venue, so it would cost you a penny or two to rent it out. It’s now mainly used for corporate events or weddings. Most famously, David and Victoria Beckham tied the knot here back in 1999! Paul McCartney, Kelly Clarkson and Fred Astaire have also paid a visit in the past.
The castle’s set on 567 acres of parkland, and even has its own golf course, which can be accessed via the Clubhouse.
