You don't need to miss a minute of Emmerdale with our handy guide
Emmerdale continues to keep us on our toes with the schedule – and this week has been no different, so is it on on Friday July 17?
Between football, rugby and other special shows, ITV tends to shift the soap schedule around. And boy, have they been shifting A LOT lately! But we’ve got you covered with all the up-to-date schedule changes right here!

What time is Emmerdale on tonight? Is it on ITVX?
On Friday, July 17, Emmerdale will be back on air on ITV at 8pm. Coronation Street, which usually follows, also airs at 8.30pm. Tonight both soaps will be on for half-an-hour each.
Streaming is already available on ITVX and YouTube. They are usually released every day from 7am for anyone who can’t wait until the evening.
Both soaps are now back to normal for a while as the World Cup Final is being played on Sunday, July 19. We do have an extra episode to make up for some missed lately on Sunday July 26.
Some think if ITV brought the power hour earlier, it might make more sense, as then the soaps could possibly still air whenever the sport is on!

What happens in Emmerdale tonight?
Friday’s Emmerdale sees Chas and Aaron shocked as they find out yet another Serena secret – and it’s not a good one. Will this make Robert see sense about her?
Elsewhere, after confiding in Vanessa, Charity disappears again. Mack is worried sick about his wife, but it turns out she’s gone to a rape victim support group in the first step to helping herself.
Also, Lewis worries he’s made a mistake hiring Kev as Nicola does all she can to sabotage their relationship.
And, Noah decides to investigate jobs abroad as he feels like his life has stalled in the Dales. Will he leave?

Soap power hour is a hit
In October 2024, Emmerdale began streaming the daily episode of the soap from 7am. Despite some concerns that it meant the soap was in trouble, coupled with lots of cast exits, it has been revealed that actually it was a great move by ITV as stats revealed viewing was way up.
The soap then announced a new schedule. The soap ‘power hour’ started in January 2026 and sees Emmerdale continue to air five nights a week. New episodes also drop on ITVX every morning at 7am as usual.
However, the soap has moved to a new time slot of 8pm. The Thursday double bill was also cut to half an hour to make way for additional episodes of Coronation Street.
This ensures faster-paced, digestible episodes – a 30-minute format which has already proven popular with viewers.
However, it also seems that the changes don’t stop the disruption caused by sports.
