On Instagram on Thursday night, Ruth told her followers that she was preparing to fill in for Lorraine on her ITV daytime programme on Friday.
Fans were thrilled by the news and some even wanted Ruth to have a permanent slot.
Why is Ruth Langsford on Lorraine today?
Ruth is on the ITV show as regular host Lorraine Kelly is in Boston, USA, for the World Cup.
She said: “I’ve got an early start in the morning because tomorrow, for one day only, I’m covering the Lorraine show. She’s off tomorrow.”
In the comments, Ruth explained further: “Up bright and early tomorrow… covering a day on @lorraine (she’s in Boston for the football!).
“Just prepping my food for a healthy start to the day. Early night for me… hope you can join me at 9.30.”
Her followers were over the moon, with many making a plea.

Speaking on the show on Friday, Ruth said: “Welcome to Lorraine and as you can see it’s not Lorraine. I’m delighted to be here while Lorraine has gone to Boston to watch her beloved Scotland play. Good luck Scotland.”

Lorraine Kelly is in Boston, USA, amid the 2026 World Cup.
In a video shared to Instagram on Thursday, the star promoted her latest book, The Island Secret.

She told her followers: “Today’s the day, it’s happy publication day to me. The Island Secret is finally out.
“I’m actually in Boston for the Scotland Morocco game so I will be celebrating publication day and also hopefully a win for Scotland.”
Changes to ITV show
It comes after major changes were made to Lorraine’s ITV show.
Earlier this year, ITV cuts meant the star saw her show reduced in time from an hour to just 30 minutes.
Lorraine is also now only on air for 30 weeks of the year.
