Abi Webster in Coronation Street: drug addiction, Seb's tragic death and her doomed marriage to Kevin

Abi Webster has been at the centre of Weatherfield drama since she arrived in 2017

Abi Webster arrived in Coronation Street in October, 2017, and was introduced as the mum of an already established character, Seb Franklin.

Her first scenes were a guest role, but the character was later brought back on a permanent basis the following year. And what a journey she has been on since then!

Abi had a troubled background before arriving in Weatherfield, having battled an addiction to alcohol and drugs for years.

But how did Abi go from being Seb’s addict mum to a respected mechanic?

Here is everything you need to know about Abi Webster…

Abi Webster’s dramatic arrival in Weatherfield

With Abi spending most of her time intoxicated, her teenage son, Seb, had been left to look after his younger twin siblings, Charlie and Lexi.

Abi took an instant dislike to Anna Windass, the mother of Seb’s girlfriend, Faye, when she made no secret of the fact she thought Abi was a bad mum.

With Seb looking after the twins and going out to work to provide for the family, social services soon got involved.

However, the real turning point came when Abi overdosed on cocaine and she was later found unconscious by Seb and Faye.

Later, Abi was heartbroken when the twins were taken into foster care and she did a stint in rehab to get clean.

After she got out of rehab in 2018, Abi put Charlie and Lexi up for adoption, believing they would have a better life with someone else.

Determined to turn her life around, Abi trained as a mechanic and got a job at Webster’s Autocentre. But her efforts didn’t last long – as always with Abi, trouble was lurking around the corner.

Meeting Sally Metcalfe in jail

Abi befriended Steve McDonald and helped him rehearse his first dance for his wedding to Tracy Barlow.

But when a jealous Tracy thought they were having an affair, she sabotaged Michelle Connor’s car at the garage and framed Abi.

Realising her mistake after it was too late, Tracy covered her tracks at first. However, it eventually became too much and Tracy confessed.

When Seb discovered Tracy framed his mum, he got revenge by trashing Preston’s Petals.

But Abi couldn’t face her kind-hearted son getting into trouble and took the blame for his crime.

She ended up serving 16 weeks in jail. While she was in prison, she made friends with Sally Metcalfe, who had been framed for fraud.

The cellmates looked out for one another and, once they’d been released, Abi moved in with Sally, Tim and Faye.

Abi’s romance with Peter Barlow

Abi Webster found herself forming a close bond with Peter Barlow in 2019.

The pair agreed their romance was just a bit of fun, but that soon changed. After falling out with Seb, Abi asked Peter if she could join him when he set sail around the world.

At first he was hesitant, but changed his mind when his ex, Carla Connor, told him she no longer loved him. However, their plan was scuppered when Peter’s jealous son, Simon, asked his dad to break up with Abi.

Abi was hurt by the rejection, and the same night, Peter’s boat caught fire.

Of course, Abi became the prime suspect. But, as she was drunk at the time of the fire, she couldn’t actually remember if she was guilty or not.

Thankfully Cathy Matthews came to Abi’s rescue. She told the police Abi couldn’t have set fire to the boat as she was in town at the time.

It was later revealed that Roy Cropper accidentally set fire to the boat while sleepwalking.

Finding love with Kevin Webster

In 2020 Abi and Kevin got together.

At first Sally wasn’t happy about her friend and ex-husband getting together, convinced their romance was doomed.

She soon changed her mind and for a while Abi enjoyed a normal family life for the first time, living with Kevin and helping to raise his son, Jack.

By 2021 the couple had got engaged and it looked as though Abi would get the happy-ever-after she deserved.

But that was all set to change when Seb was brutally attacked.

Seb’s tragic death

Just as Abi and Seb got their rocky relationship on track, Seb was tragically killed in an unprovoked hate crime in May, 2021.

Seb and his girlfriend Nina Lucas were targeted while on an evening walk.

While Nina eventually recovered from her injuries Seb sadly died and Abi’s world fell apart.

Kelly Neelan was wrongly sentenced to life imprisonment for Seb’s murder, but flashbacks revealed it was Corey Brent who was guilty.

The attack happened on the night of Abi and Kevin’s hen and stag parties and Abi understandably struggled to cope with losing her son.

Falling off the wagon once again, Abi dealt with her grief by having a one-night stand with Imran Habeeb.

But her night of passion came back to haunt her when she discovered she was pregnant with her third son, Alfie.

How many children does Abi Webster have?

Abi’s eldest child, Seb, was born in 2001. His dad was Tez Wyatt, who didn’t stick around long enough to help raise his son.

Twins Charlie and Lexi were born in 2012 and their father was an addict friend of Abi called Darren.

Alfie was born in 2022 after Abi’s fling with Imran following Seb’s death.

Abi rejected her baby at first, not wanting to replace the son she had just lost, but soon changed her mind.

When Imran tragically died in May 2022 Abi got custody of Alfie and, having married Kevin in 2021, Abi started to rebuild her life after Seb’s death.

Abi Webster’s deep-fake trauma

But sadly for Abi, more drama was just around the corner.

Abi recently became the victim of online abuse when pornographic images of her were shared online.

The deeply humiliating videos left Abi devastated and she was convinced it was the work of drug dealer Dean.

However, it was only when more videos emerged that Abi realised they were fake and had been made using AI.

It was later revealed that Stefan Brent, the father of Seb’s killer, Corey, was creating the videos.

Stefan’s vile crime was an attempt to get revenge on Abi for challenging a documentary being broadcast that focused on Corey’s prison football team.

Abi managed to prove the videos were fake, but the ordeal put a huge strain on her marriage to Kevin.

Abi Webster’s PTSD

Seb’s murder haunted Abi once again when she found Mason Radcliffe dying in the street in January 2025.

Mason had been stabbed with a zombie knife by his brothers, Matty and Logan.

Abi was the first on the scene and got help, and soon paramedics arrived and tried to save Mason.

Sadly Mason didn’t make it and later died in hospital from his injuries, just as Seb had.

The trauma of finding Mason left Abi with PTSD and she ended up going for therapy to help her cope.

Kevin’s cancer and Abi’s affair with Carl

In the summer of 2025, Kevin told a shocking lie in an attempt to save his relationship with Abi.

Kevin was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and his family rallied around him.

He was later given the amazing news that he was cancer-free following chemotherapy. But Kevin panicked that this would cause Abi to lose interest in him, so he did the unthinkable.

Kevin lied that he was still unwell and told Abi he still needed treatment.

However, his lies unravelled when his friends and family realised his stories didn’t match up.

Soon Kevin was forced to admit he had been lying and the truth pushed Abi into the arms of Kevin’s brother, Carl.

Knowing Kevin was well again, Abi ended their marriage and Kevin was devastated. He had his suspicions that something was going on between Abi and Carl, but she denied it.

Of course, Kevin was right, but what Abi doesn’t know is she is also being played for a fool by Carl.

Abi has no idea that Carl is also in a secret relationship with James Bailey. But where does this leave Abi?

Who plays Abi Webster?

Sally Carman-Duttine has played the role of Abi Webster since 2017 and is the only star to play the character. She was born in Mexborough, South Yorkshire in 1981.

Before joining Coronation Street, Sally starred in Channel 4 comedy series Shameless between 2005 and 2013. She also starred in Prisoners’ Wives and Moving On.

Sally is married to her Corrie co-star Joe Duttine, who is better known to soap fans as Tim Metcalfe. The pair tied the knot in 2022 and often share cute pictures of their dog, Figgy, on social media.
