David and Richard Hillman

It’s fair to say David has had his fair share of drama on the famous cobbles over the years. Most notably in 2001, when mum Gail fell for serial killer Richard Hillman.

Poor Gail was unaware that Richard had money trouble and was prepared to go to sinister lengths to cover them up, including murdering three people.

And in 2003, after his crimes were exposed, Richard kidnapped Gail, her terrified kids and little Bethany, and drove into the canal. The family survived but Richard drowned.

When did David try to kill Gail?

David and mum Gail haven’t exactly had a plain sailing relationship over the years.

In 2008, David struck up a romance with Tina McIntyre. However, David found out that Gail paid for Tina to have an abortion – and he was not happy…

During a heated argument with his mum, a demonic David pushed Gail down the stairs, leading to her being hospitalised.

And things only went from bad to worse for David when Tina called things quit with him. Fuming, David smashed up the entire Street and even attacked poor Ken Barlow. As a result, he was sentenced to four months in a Young Offenders Institution.

Why does David Platt call Gail by her name Gail – and not ‘Mum’?

Loyal Coronation Street viewers will know that, over the years, David has referred to his mum by her first name, Gail. This has often left fans puzzled and in 2015, David actor Jack revealed the reasoning behind it.

Taking part in a Q&A on X, then known as Twitter, Jack was asked: “Why do you call your mum Gail?” He replied: “David calls Gail ‘Gail’ when he doesn’t respect her.”

David Platt and Tracy Barlow

In 2006, David got involved with Tracy Barlow’s fatal romance with Charlie Stubbs. David knew his friend Maria Sutherland – who he fancied – was having an affair with Charlie and tried to blackmail the nasty resident.

But Charlie got revenge by attempting to drown a teenage David in the bath. The shocking scenes were so violent they attracted many complaints from viewers.

As fans will know, Tracy ended up killing Charlie. And in a bid to try and get away with the crime, she manipulated David to be her alibi, as she was aware he had a bit of a crush on her.

Tracy was eventually sent to prison for the crime, before getting released in 2010. And fresh from her prison stint, she ended up sleeping with David…

Who was David Platt’s first wife?

In 2011, David met and married Kylie Turner after a whirlwind holiday romance – with David then helping Kylie get custody of her son, Max.

And David being David, resorted to extreme measures to get his revenge on Nick. During a showdown in a car, David and Nick were hit by a truck and Nick ended up in a coma for weeks.

Despite the ups and downs, in 2013, David and Kylie had their first child, Lily. However, after the murder of her ex boyfriend Callum in, Kylie decided she wanted to move to Barbados to be with Kylie’s sister, Becky.

In a tragic turn of events though, Kylie was stabbed by Clayton Hibbs and died in David’s arms on the cobbles in 2016.

Who did David Platt bury in Coronation Street?

In 2014, the ex-boyfriend of Kylie Platt, and Max’s biological father, Callum Logan rocked up to the street. And the drug dealer caused plenty of drama for the Platts.

However, Callum’s time on the cobbles came to an end in 2015 when Kylie walked in on him attacking girlfriend Sarah Platt. As a result, Kylie killed him with a blow over the head.

Not knowing what to do, Kylie and David stashed Callum’s body in a manhole, which was later concreted over due to renovation work. He lived downstairs with no one realising, until he was uncovered.

Some eight months after his murder in May 2016, Tyrone Dobbs crashed his car into No.8 and caused the floor to be destroyed in Gail’s annex.

Callum’s corpse was uncovered and police discovered it the next morning. They were all arrested, but escaped sentencing after they pinned it on the late Tony Stewart.
