Tyrone Dobbs arrived in Weatherfield as a troubled teenager in November, 1998, and has never looked back!

After a rocky childhood thanks to his mum Jackie Dobbs being in and out of jail, Tyrone couldn’t read or write and was often in trouble with the police.

But how did Tyrone go from being a teen tearaway to a respectable family man?

Here is a recap of the iconic character’s history… and why he’s become such an iconic part of  the show.

Tyrone’s early years on Coronation Street

Tyrone cut ties with his mum at 16 and went to train as a mechanic with Kevin Webster. To this day he still works at Webster’s Autocentre and is now a co-owner with Kevin after buying half the business in 2008.

Things started to look up for a young Tyrone when he was taken in by iconic cobbles couple, Jack and Vera Duckworth.

Jack and Vera welcomed Tyrone into their home and hearts and he soon became like a son to them. More so than their biological son, Terry!

Tyrone Dobbs’ early love life

Ty’s first romance was with Maria Sutherland – now better known to Corrie fans as Maria Connor. They were engaged not once, but twice.

Despite being teenage sweethearts, the couple never made it down the aisle and eventually broke up in 2006. This might have something to do with a certain Fiz Brown, but more on her later!

Next to turn Tyrone’s head was Molly Compton. The pair appeared to have a fairly solid relationship (well, as solid as you can in soapland) and married in 2009.

Tyrone was thrilled when they welcomed their son, Jack, into the world, however his happiness was short-lived.

When Jack was only three months old, Molly dropped the bombshell that Tyrone wasn’t his biological father.

Just hours after admitting the truth, Molly was killed in the infamous 2010 tram crash.

Tyrone was heartbroken when it turned out Kevin Webster was Jack’s dad and the truth destroyed their friendship for a while. Of course, they soon made up and have been best friends ever since.

Kirsty’s domestic abuse

Next in line for Tyrone’s affections was policewoman Kirsty Soames in 2011.

At first it looked like Kirsty could be the one for Ty, however, she quickly showed her true colours.

Tyrone was subjected to months of physical and mental abuse at the hands of Kirsty, which continued even after the couple’s daughter, Ruby, was born.

Playing the victim to perfection, Kirsty made people think she was being abused and that Ty was the one hurting her.

However, her lies unravelled at Tyrone’s trial for ABH and she confessed that she lied to the police about Tyrone pushing her down the stairs.

Soon Tyrone’s horrendous ordeal was revealed and Kirsty went to jail for perjury. She died off-screen in 2021 from an aneurysm.

Relationship with Fiz

Fiz was and still is the love of Tyrone’s life.

After an on/off romance over the years, the pair got together properly in 2013.

Dubbed the new Jack and Vera of Weatherfield, the pair shared their ups and downs, but always reunited in the end.

Fiz and Tyrone’s biggest bump in the road came when Ty had a fling with a younger woman, Alina Pop.

Alina started out as Fiz and Tyrone’s lodger in 2021. However, Alina started to fall for Tyrone and he struggled to resist her advances.

The pair had an affair and, when Fiz found out, she threw Tyrone out and he went to live with Alina. Alina eventually left Weatherfield and Fiz and Tyrone reunited.

Fiz and Tyrone finally tied the knot on Christmas Day in 2022 surrounded by friends and family.

However, that wasn’t the end of Alina Pop. She returned to the cobbles in 2024 and told Tyrone they shared a son called Dorin.

How many children does Tyrone Dobbs have?

Tyrone Dobbs has three children.

His eldest daughter is called Ruby, who was born in 2012. Ruby’s mum is Tyrone’s abusive fiancee, Kirsty Soames.

He also has an adopted daughter, Hope Stape. Hope’s mum is Tyrone’s wife, Fiz, and her father is Fiz’s killer ex, John Stape.

As well as his two daughters, Tyrone also has a young son, Dorin Pop, who was born in 2022.

Tyrone only found out that Dorin existed in 2024 after Alina Pop hid her pregnancy following their affair.

Meeting Evelyn and Cassie Plummer

After Jackie Dobbs died in 2018, Tyrone discovered she wasn’t his birth mother, leaving him desperate for answers.

He tracked down evidence that his mother’s name was Cassandra Plummer. This led him to meet his grandmother, Evelyn.

Evelyn was forced to admit that she abandoned her daughter’s baby at a police station in 1982 because Cassie was a drug addict.

Despite a rocky start to their relationship, Evelyn eventually moved into number 9 Coronation Street.

Tyrone and Evelyn grew fond of one another, and despite her sharp tongue, Evelyn settled into life with her grandson and his family.

However, their lives were turned upside down when Tyrone’s presumed-dead mother, Cassie, turned up.

Evelyn was adamant that Cassie wouldn’t ruin Ty’s life with her addictions, and tried to help her daughter kick her drug habit in 2022.

In 2023, Cassie was cross to learn Evelyn was secretly living with Tyrone and decided to introduce herself to her son against Evelyn’s wishes.

Tyrone was shocked to learn his mum was still alive, but the pair have since built a relationship together.

Tyrone’s hit and run horror

In September 2025, Tyrone was caught up in a hit and run accident which left him with life-changing injuries.

Tyrone was left unable to feel his legs after being hit by a stolen car.

When a scan showed he had a clot on his spine, Tyrone had to undergo surgery to have it removed.

With Tyrone now in a wheelchair, he is facing an agonising future as he starts a long road to recovery.

Who plays Tyrone Dobbs in Coronation Street?

Alan Halsall has played Tyrone since 1998 and is the only actor to have ever played the character.

Alan was born in Manchester on the 11th August, 1982 and shares a daughter called Sienna-Rae with former Coronation Street co-star and ex-wife Lucy-Jo Hudson.

Before Coronation Street Alan appeared in Children’s Ward, Heartbeat, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates and in 2024 he finished in sixth place on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
