4 theories on why Gary was at Theo’s murder scene, from killer motive to huge cover-up plot

In last night’s episode of Coronation Street (Wednesday, June 10), a flashback aired that revealed Gary was at the scene of Theo Silverton’s death.

Gary Windass could be seen holding a mallet and standing at the top of the scaffolding while staring down at Theo’s body.

With this reveal shocking fans, here are four top theories as to why Gary was at the scene of the crime.

Coronation Street flashback theory 1. Gary killed Theo

The most obvious theory is that Gary himself killed Theo. The flashback could’ve been him staring down at the person he’d just hit on the head with a mallet and pushed off the scaffolding. As simple as that.

It certainly looked that way to some fans. One fan wondered: “Just seen Gary from the balcony looking over at Theo does that mean he killed him, or is that too obvious?”

Another fan said: “So Gary is connected to Theo’s murder… Did he kill Theo and Sarah witnessed it?”

But, perhaps Gary is ‘too obvious.’ Kit’s been certain Gary’s the killer for a while now so other fans are expecting another twist on the cards…

2. Sarah did it

Sarah and Gary are keeping a secret about the night of Theo’s murder, and it seems rather strange that Gary would risk telling anybody that he’d killed Theo unless Sarah happened to spot him doing so. Or, he was killing Theo to protect her.

Another theory though is that Sarah must be involved in this whole situation another way. Being that Sarah killed Theo and then Gary helped her cover her tracks. We all know Gary would do anything for his ex-lover turned bestie Sarah after all.

One person on X said: “It’s too obvious to be Gary who killed Theo. Sarah did it and Gary helped.”

Coronation Street Theo and Gary flashback theory 3. A misunderstanding

A third theory is that the whole thing was a huge misunderstanding and neither Sarah and Gary know who really killed Theo.

Both arrived at the scene to protect each other but Theo was already dead. They saw each other and then assumed that the other had killed him.

A fan thinking outside of the box suggested: “If this is the flashback, Gary didn’t do it. I think Gary went to confront Theo after seeing Sarah upset on the Street, but Theo was already dead. They are assuming the other did it so they’re covering for each other without ever actually asking if the other did it.”

4. Todd in trouble

A final theory is that Gary and Sarah assumed that their friend Todd killed his abusive husband Theo. Not wanting to get him into trouble, they helped him cover it up.

However, they got it all wrong as Todd didn’t do it, making the whole thing even messier.

One fan even thinks that Jodie was the real killer.

Taking to X, they reckoned: “Right? I think Gary & Sarah think they are covering up for Todd, that’s why Gary was giving Todd the long stare on Monday  He’s resenting Todd, b/c Todd isn’t in a state like him. But, that’s b/c Todd didn’t do it. So, Gary could unwittingly be covering up for Jodie.”
