Beverley Callard has revealed her cancer has spread in a health update.

The 69-year-old soap legend, who played Liz McDonald in Corrie, revealed in January that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Beverley has since undergone surgery to remove her lymph nodes as doctors worked to determine whether the cancer had spread.

Following her operation in March, she had expected to receive her results within four weeks but was informed that there had been a delay.

However, in a fresh update, Beverley, who is currently starring on I’m A Celebrity South Africa, finally has her results.

Beverley Callard issues cancer update

In an Instagram post shared last night (April 16), Beverley said that her consultant contacted her to say the surgery “went really well,” and they managed to “cut the cancer out”.

However, she also confirmed that cancer cells were found in one of her lymph nodes.

“They’re pleased with how the surgery went. And they also have two or three lymph nodes. And this is how she explained it to me. The lymph nodes are like a staircase. And if cancer is in the lymph nodes, it sort of tends to climb up the stairs,” she continued.

“That’s oversimplifying it, but just to help explain. And they took three, and the cancer is in the first lymph node. It’s not in the second two and three. So it is there, but it’s only small.”

Beverley revealed the next move is to “send it to America to see how aggressive the cancer is”. She said she should “know about that in approximately two weeks” and has to wait again.

If the cancer comes back as “aggressive”, she will “have to undergo chemo first and then after that, radiotherapy”.

However, if it isn’t “aggressive”, Beverley will have her radiotherapy as planned.

She added: “So in one way it was kind of good news that the surgeries worked well which I’m really pleased about but because it’s in the lymph nodes it’s still a worry and still a waiting time which is an absolute pain but there we go and I’m sure loads of you have been through the same thing so that’s the state of play and thank you for caring I really appreciate that very much indeed and what you say to me and the comments you make.”
