Fans will recall John slipping away overseas earlier this year after his secrets came to light. His exit left viewers crying out for one last hurrah. And now, with fresh hints bubbling up, speculation is rife that we might just get the return everyone’s been waiting for… John is on the run (Credit: ITV) John Sugden on the run in Emmerdale John Sugden burst onto Emmerdale in 2024 shrouded in mystery. As Jack Sugden’s son – and half‑brother to Victoria and Robert – he wasn’t exactly the easiest character to warm to. And then came the twist, John’s so‑called ‘hero complex,’ where he’d hurt people just so he could swoop in and save them. Nate Robinson was one of his first victims. After a scrap with Cain Dingle left Nate injured, John stepped in with dodgy medicine that went horribly wrong. Nate died, and instead of owning up, John dumped his body in the lake. When the truth threatened to float to the surface, John scrambled to cover his tracks – even framing Owen Michaels for the death. But Nate wasn’t the only one. John left his ex‑fiancé Aidan Moore in a coma, drugged Chas and pinned it on Ella Forster, whacked Mack with a shovel, caused the slurry tank leak at Butlers, and even poisoned Cain with alcohol before playing the hero to save him. Article Continues Below Read all the latest Spoilers As his secrets unravelled, John went full villain mode – kidnapping Mack and keeping him locked in a bunker, drugging husband Aaron to stay in control, and when that failed, dragging him over a cliff and framing Robert for it all. Eventually, Caleb Miligan helped John flee to Rotterdam, thanks to a blackmail plot over Anthony Fox’s death. But fans were left fuming. After months of screen time, John’s exit felt like a damp squib – far too weak for such a twisted character arc. Kit Green in Coronation Street drinks tea next to John’s wanted poster (Credit: ITV) Corriedale fan theory predicts John Sugden soap return Eagle-eyed viewers have now spotted what they think is another hint John will be back. His ‘wanted’ poster has once again been seen hanging in the police station in Coronation Street. During a scene in the early moments of Wednesday night’s Corrie (November 26) police officer Kit Green was seen drinking tea. And, standing right next to the poster. The shot lingered for long enough that we were obviously meant to clock it. It’s not the first time we’ve seen that in Corrie. Back in September he also appeared on a wanted poster in Weatherfield police station. At the time there was speculation John was in fact the late Andy Carver. He was killed by Pat Phelan eight years ago. Oliver Farnworth played Andy Carver in Coronation Street from 2014-2017, prior to joining Emmerdale as evil John. Discussing the possibility on X one fan said: “When it turns out he’s not even John Sugden – it’s just Andy from Corrie 2015 carrying on his false identity trademark!” Another added: “Nah but since John showed up I’ve always jokingly said that obviously Andy secretly survived and Phelan turned him into a killer, then set him free on the Dales, where he went by the alias of John Sugden. I’m just gonna take this as head canon accepted.” Lisa Swain and Aaron Dingle are confirmed for Corriedale (Credit: ITV) John ‘appearance’ in Corriedale As time has ticked on with no mention of John – and another psycho husband in the form of Kev Townsend threatening a Robron reunion – soap fans have begun to wonder whether John actually has gone. One questioned on social media: “Does anyone think he’s definitely gone or could he still come back?” And others referenced the Corrie wanted poster: “There’s a wanted poster for him in the police station in Corrie; so he probably ties into Corriedale somehow,” said one. “I’m 100 percent sure he’ll play a major part in Corriedale,” shared another. Coronation Street and Emmerdale bosses are drip-feeding us details of the Corriedale crossover episode. It will air in January to mark the start of the soap power hour schedule change. The soap special is going to bring together the residents of Weatherfield and the Dales for the first time ever. The combined production teams have embarked on an ambitious stunt. And we have been told that it will have “everlasting consequences” for everyone involved. We know Danny Miller, aka Aaron Dingle, and Corrie’s Vicky Myers aka Lisa Swain are involved in the episode. And Celia Daniels actress Jaye Griffiths has also hinted at her presence, saying: “Watch this space. She has fingers in many, many pies.” The speculation so far is that the episode will bring Celia’s modern slavery and county lines plot together. It could involve Becky Swain who has returned from the dead in Coronation Street. She’s obviously involved in something dodgy. But whether that something involves John Sugden, we’ll have to wait and see!
