It was recently confirmed that Jaye Griffiths would be joining Emmerdale as farmer Celia Daniels. The newcomer makes her entrance this week, and wastes no time putting the locals in their place.

The new villain is at the centre of things in her very first episode as she clashes with Moira and then her dog attacks vet Paddy.

As Celia make a big first impression, we take a look at the life of Jaye Griffiths. Here’s where else you may have seen her…

Who is Celia in Emmerdale?

Farmer Celia Daniels has been described as having a tough edge and makes her first appearance in Monday’s episode of Emmerdale (June 30).

Celia manages a farm along the lane from Moira Dingle and offered Moira £500 to rent two fields from her. Moira’s adamant the fields were worth more so turned down Celia’s offer.

Celia makes a catty remark to Moira before heading on her way and clashing with Paddy Kirk. Clearly Celia isn’t about making friends.

Paddy soon finds himself being attacked by one of Celia’s dogs and is rushed to hospital for a blood transfusion.

The vet will soon confront Celia about the situation, but it doesn’t go to plan.

Jaye Griffiths as Celia Daniels in Emmerdale

Jaye Griffiths has taken on the role of Celia. Born in September 1961, the actress is 61 years old.

She shares two dogs – Peggy and Rodney – with husband Paul Bezodis, though prefers to keep her private life private and doesn’t have a social media presence.

On playing the role of Celia, Jaye said: “She is such a strange, complex woman. There is more to come. It is so much fun. Celia wears farm clothes but there is not a scrap of mud on her. She is immaculate. She wears a cravat and there is a reason for that…”

Describing what’s to come, she added: “I know viewers will think she is a villain at the start, but there is also a lot more to her and she will calm down. She will be manipulating people too. My advice to all the villagers is give Celia what she wants then they won’t have to watch out!”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are absolutely delighted to have Jaye Griffiths joining us to play the role of Celia. While Celia has a tough edge with an air of respectability, the audience, and our villagers, will soon start to see what this woman is truly capable of.”

Emmerdale and Celia Daniels star Jaye Griffiths stands up for middle-aged women

While Jaye tends to stay out of the spotlight, back in 2017 she did an interview which criticised the industry’s treatment of middle-aged women.

Speaking to The Mirror, she said: “With the best will in the world no one is going to employ you as the femme fatale. Those parts don’t exist in this country for middle-aged women. They do elsewhere but not here.

“No one cares because we are not seen as having an effect on society. We actually are politically active, solvent beyond belief, we have power but no one cares. We are so invisible.”
