How is Victoria Sarah's aunt? Fans confused over how they're related as they never interact

They share a surname but how exactly are they related?

Victoria was shocked in yesterday’s episode of Emmerdale, when Charity asked her to be a surrogate for Sarah.

“You’re family,” Charity said to a stunned Victoria, who was less than keen to carry her ex-boyfriend’s baby.

In fact, Vic being part of the family kept coming up as Charity tried to convince her to have Sarah’s baby.

It’s a mystery!

But all those assertions that Victoria was a family member, left fans scratching their heads.

Many viewers took to social media to point out that though Victoria and Sarah share a surname, they barely ever interact.

“I can’t say I’ve ever seen Charity acknowledge Victoria ever before,” said one.

While another added: “Can’t even remember the last time Sarah and Victoria had a conversation.”

How are Victoria and Sarah related in Emmerdale?

Some fans were confused about just what the family connection is.

“Someone just said that Sarah is Victoria’s niece,” wrote one baffled viewer. “I’m confused, how?”

We thought it was time we explained just how Victoria and Sarah are related.

Because it’s true. Sarah is Victoria’s niece.

Victoria collects brothers like other people collect supermarket loyalty points!

When she was only a little girl, her parents Jack and Sarah fostered and then adopted a teenage boy called Andy.

Andy Sugden quickly became part of the family, with Victoria and Robert both considering him their brother.

When Andy was 18, he had a brief romance with then 15-year-old Debbie Dingle. She fell pregnant, though she kept it secret until she gave birth to Sarah in 2002.

So that means Sarah is in fact Victoria’s niece.

It’s all about family

But it doesn’t really explain why the pair haven’t spoken to one another for weeks. Months, even!

One slightly cynical viewer pointed out the reason Charity’s all about family now.

“She’s realised Victoria family when she wants something,” the fan joked!
