Freelance Soap Writer

  • Kerry’s all-time Emmerdale highlight was being asked to write two spin-off novels about the families from the show during WW2, telling the story of how Annie and Jacob Sugden – Victoria’s grandparents – got together.

  • Her favourite ever storyline was Cameron Murray’s murderous rampage, especially the amazing episode featuring the siege in the Woolpack.

  • Her ultimate Emmerdale family is the Sugdens, and she’s excited to meet newcomer John.

Experience

Kerry has been a journalist for more than two decades, starting on a local newspaper before moving to magazines and then online. She spent 10 years as Features Editor on All About Soap and is now freelance, writing for websites including What To Watch, as well as Entertainment Daily. She’s interviewed hundreds of soap stars, visited the cobbles of Coronation Street, pulled a pint in the Woolpack in Emmerdale, and posed for photos beside the Albert Square sign on the EastEnders set. Kerry is also a novelist, writing for Harper Collins and Orion.

Education

Kerry studied English Language and Literature at the University of Birmingham and went on to take her NCTJ and NCE journalism qualifications. She thinks there are a lot of similarities between the classic novels and plays she studied at uni, and today’s soaps.
