Emmerdale fans slam soap over Ross twist: 'Have some originality'

Charity is stuck in a lift with Ross
Carena Crawford

Ross Barton saved the day for Charity Dingle in Emmerdale last night (Monday April 20) as he got her to the hospital when she went into labour. And tonight he goes one step further and delivers the baby safely himself as they are stuck in a lift.

It should be all smiles and joy at the new arrival, except that Ross is really the baby’s father and Sarah and Jacob, who think they are the little one’s parents, have no idea.

For fans of Emmerdale it’s all a little too convenient. They have made it very clear they think the soap needs to buck up its ideas and do something more original.

Ross the hero as Charity goes into labour in Emmerdale

Feeling all the guilt as she knows the surrogate baby she’s supposed to be carrying is in fact her own child, Charity threw herself head first into organising a baby shower for Sarah earlier this week.

She and Mack had to go and pick up the cake, but needed to stop off in the woods for a quick wee. However, then Mack’s car wouldn’t start and it turned out neither of them had brought their phones. So it was the perfect time for Charity’s waters to break.

Thankfully it wasn’t long before another car drove by. And who should be behind the wheel? Well Ross Barton, of course. Who would have guessed it?!

Ross was at first reluctant to take them to the hospital, having been fooled by Charity’s fake labour a few weeks ago. He soon gave them a lift, albeit begrudgingly.

When they got to the hospital and got in the lift, things took another turn as it broke down.

Fears for Charity as she gives birth

Tonight (Tuesday April 21) Charity, Mack and Ross are still stuck in the lift. Mack is having flashbacks to being trapped in the bunker with John Sugden, so it’s down to Ross to get help.

With Charity’s contractions getting more painful, Ross is forced to deliver the baby himself. The midwife talks him through everything over the intercom and Charity gives birth to a healthy girl.

However, soon Ross notices a pool of blood forming and it’s clear something is up. As Charity slips into unconsciousness, will they get the lift doors open and save her life?

Emmerdale fans slam soap over Ross twist

Despite Ross being the hero of the hour, Emmerdale viewers weren’t keen on the fact he was involved at all.

Among many sighs of: “Of course it’s Ross,” followed by eye rolling emojis, others have called it ‘unoriginal’ and ‘predictable’.

“I’m sorry but this Charity storyline is so boringly predictable. Like, who didn’t know that Ross would be involved in some way?” one said on social media.

Another agreed: “Of course both Charity and Mack had to be without their phones and of course the car had to break down! It had to be Ross driving by and it was a cert that the hospital lift would break. FFS could this be any more contrived?”

“Of course the lift has broken with Mack and Ross in it…very soap convenient for this storyline,” shared another.

A fourth said: “Yeah of course it’s Ross. FFS a little originality would’ve been good,” with a series of yawning emojis.
