Victoria and Moira's connection explained as hopes are raised of an Adam Barton return

Could Adam be on his way back to Emmerdale?

Victoria and Moira shared a brief heart-to-heart in tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, as they touched on the topic of Vic’s ex, Adam Barton. The two women shared their woes about Moira’s financial troubles, and Vic’s messed-up brothers.

When Moira was encouraging Vic to open up, she asked if the younger woman’s problems were anything a ‘former mother-in-law’ could help with.

As it turned out, neither of them helped the other very much, though a problem shared and all that.

But the little reference to their one-time link, made us wonder – again – if that’s a hint that Moira’s son, Adam, could return.

And we thought it was probably time for a recap about when the pair were related.

When did Victoria and Adam get together?

Victoria Sugden and Adam Barton got together way back in 2012. It was a tumultuous time for Adam, who was not happy about his mum’s new relationship with Cain Dingle and was doing anything he could to split them up.

Unable to live with Cain, Adam moved in with Vic. But it wasn’t all moonlight and roses. She soon tired of his erratic behaviour and the pair split.

Adam continued to behave pretty badly for some time. He started a romance with Katie Macey, who wanted to annoy her ex-husband Declan. And he slept with Leyla Harding.

But Adam was having a tough time. He’d been accused of murdering Alex Moss – one of Cameron Murray’s victims. Plus he found out his dad John wasn’t actually his dad, and his real dad was John’s brother James, meaning he had three half-brothers, Finn, Ross and Pete. So he was dealing with a lot!

Tying the knot!

By 2015, Adam had calmed down a bit and he and Victoria got back together. On Vic’s 21st birthday, Adam proposed. But Vic thought she was too young to tie the knot so she turned him down. Adam didn’t react well – he ran off and slept with Vanessa Woodfield.

Ness’s other fella, Kirin Kotecha was heartbroken and revealed all to Victoria, who was equally heartbroken. But she forgave Adam – even when Vanessa found out she was pregnant – and the pair finally tied the knot

Everyone still thought Adam was the dad of Vanessa’s baby, Johnny (named after Adam’s dad, John Barton).

But as it turned out, Kirin was the dad after all – his father Rakesh had faked DNA results.

Baby blues

Adam and Victoria decided to start a family but when Victoria didn’t get pregnant, they had tests to find out why. Adam discovered he was infertile. Saddened, he decided to break up with Victoria even though he didn’t want to. In distress, he kissed Vanessa, though they both stopped. But spiteful Emma Barton told Victoria what had happened.

They did rekindle their romance though and began looking into adoption. When Moira unexpectedly gave birth to little Isaac, she offered to give him to the couple to raise. But Moira wasn’t thinking clearly after a traumatic time and the couple returned the lad to his dad, Cain.

When Moira confessed to killing Emma, Adam took the blame and went on the run. Victoria tried to talk him out of it but he left.

He and Victoria divorced, and Moira’s no longer Vic’s mother-in-law!

Could Adam return?

Thankfully Adam's condition hasn't derailed his acting career.

Earlier this year, Adam sent Emmerdale fans into a frenzy when he posted a selfie from the Emmerdale set. Sharing a photo of himself posing by the iconic village sign, Adam wrote: "I’m BACK!!!!"

His former co-stars were baffled with Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy, saying "What?"

But fans were thrilled.

"I really hope this is true as you were my favorite Barton ever!!!!!!!" gushed one viewer. While others speculated that Adam - who is, after all, Aaron's best friend - could help bring down John Sugden.

"I hope Adam will be there to help Robert uncover what John is really like," mused one fan.

But sadly, Adam was just messing with us! He'd just visited the set as part of another project and was teasing fans.

We're still hopeful though!
