Eli and Lily are arrested!

Sam wakes up in the cells, scared about what’s next. He admits to Donna that he was carrying the drugs for Eli. When the police turn up at the Dingles’  Eli makes a run for it, but he’s soon captured and arrested.

He immediately dobs in Lily and reveals that she was growing the plants for him.

Lily’s horrified to hear that Eli has been arrested and confesses all to her shocked sister, Edna. And she also fesses up to giving Edna some cannabis before the dance! Edna is stunned by both admissions. And when Ross finds cannabis in the teapot, Lily is arrested.

While Lily’s at the police station, Edna persuades Zak to help her clear the cannabis plants from Home Farm before the police turn up.  Thanks to Edna’s efforts, Lily is released with a caution, while Sam is let off with a fine. But Edna’s not about to forgive so easily. Instead, she asks Lily to leave.

And Debbie finishes with Eli.

Lily leaves Emmerdale

Later, Edna finds a note from Lily saying that she’s packed up and gone.

Pearl admits Edna that she took Lily to the airport that morning. She says Lily was upset and she tries to find out what is going on between the sisters.

The older villagers gather at the pub after getting a letter from Lily asking them to turn up. Pearl reads out a letter from Lily, apologising for her swift departure and leaving a bottle of champagne. Edna tries to cover her own disappointment.

Sam’s in trouble when social services show up

There’s more trouble for Sam when worried Terry reports him to social services. Sam’s rattled when social worker Liz turns up to check up on Samson after Sam’s arrest.

When concerned Lisa finds out that Liz is at Sam’s, she bursts in. Panicking, Sam throws a plate of beans at the two women! Not his finest moment. Liz warns Sam that Samson could end up in care.

Lisa tries to persuade Sam to move back in. While later Liz tells Lisa and Zak that they should apply for custody of Samson to stop him being taken into care. Zak is left wondering how to explain that to Sam.

When Zak tells Sam, he pushes him to move back in. But Sam refuses and Zak is angry with his stubborn son.

Sam’s getting desperate

Things get worse when Carl finds a final demand bill at the cottage and tells him to get it sorted or move out. Desperate, Zak and Lisa ask Shadrach to have a word with Sam about moving and it seems he may have finally got through.

Though the next day, Sam takes Samson to work with him. Worried Zak and Lisa warn him a farm is no place for a toddler. They invite Sam round for tea, but when they quiz him about his plans, he soon feels railroaded and storms out of the house. Zak tells Lisa that they may have to apply for custody of Samson after all.

Sam goes off the rails, when Shadrach reveals that his dad and stepmum are planning to apply for temporary custody of Samson.

Always ready with some bad advice, Shadrach tells Sam to go on the run and even gives him a gun for emergencies!

If that wasn’t bad enough, Sam goes to the factory to ask Eric for a loan. When no one is there, Sam helps himself to the cash box. But when David turns up Sam threatens them with a gun!

Sam’s on the run!

Shadrach hides Sam in a deserted barn. But he panics when he goes to check on him and Sam’s not there. He’s sneaked out of the back when the police turned up to look for him.

With Sam nowhere to be found, Shadrach admits to Chas that he encouraged him run away. The Dingles are furious and they set out to look for the still-missing Sam, and little Samson, but they’re forced to call off the search when it gets dark.

Zak is frustrated by their lack of progress but Lisa is upset when Zak blames her for Sam running away because she called social services.

With everyone despairing over Sam’s disappearance, Eric suggests that they do a TV appeal. Lisa thinks it’s a good idea and she persuades Zak to agree.

Zak and Lisa go on TV to do the appeal, but Zak is too emotional to speak and Lisa has to do it. She tells Sam that they all love and miss him.

Meanwhile, in a deserted house somewhere, Sam is preparing tea, and misses the appeal, which is being watched by little Samson.

Mel and Jack share a moment when she drops round some photos she found in the cottage. She ends up crying on Jack’s shoulder about the state of her marriage. Victoria sees her dad comforting Mel, and teases him about it, but Jack shrugs it off.

Donna’s annoyed with Shane

Donna’s fed up with Shane’s digs about her being a Dingle. He points out that she may have to choose between her family and police work. But Donna insists that although she’s now a Dingle by name, she isn’t a Dingle by nature.

Later, Donna grumbles to Marlon about Shane’s comments. But she reminds the villagers that she is a serious police officer, not a pushover.

Wanting to prove herself, Donna takes the chance to show her authority when Val lights a cigarette in the pub. Donna tells her to stub it out and grabs the cigarette when Val refuses.

Defiant Val lights another one and she and Donna end up in a full-blown row and a scuffle which ends when Donna arrests Val for assaulting a police officer. Angry Val gets her own back by telling Marlon that she’s cutting his shifts to pay her fine.

The next day, Katie goes for her first scan with the proud parents by her side. Perdy wants to know whether it’s a boy or a girl, but Gray insists that it’s Katie’s decision.

Katie agrees to let Perdy know, but Perdy tells her she’s changed her mind – it doesn’t matter whether the baby is a boy or girl. It will be perfect. Later, Katie comforts Gray when he has a wobble about only being a part-time dad.

Gray tells Diane that he’s begun to feel very close to Katie. But Diane hints that Katie might not turn a blind eye to his affairs with men the way Perdy did.

Diane’s warning strikes a chord with Gray, who is cold with Katie later.

Val’s scared about her operation

Val’s scared to go to the hospital for her eye appointment, and locks herself in the loo. Eric persuades her to go, but she is terrified when she learns that she will have to have two operations on her eyes to get rid of the cataracts.

Ever the drama queen, Val makes a list of everything she wants to see before it’s too late. And she falls out with Diane when she compares her eye op to Diane’s cancer.

Sandy’s not in the best of health either. He collapses in the pub and the doctor warns him to make sure he takes his diabetes medicine.
