Features Jacob Gallagher Sarah Sugden Share By Carena Crawford Jul 24 2025 By Carena Crawford Jul 24 2025 Jacob and Sarah in Emmerdale might be doing things a funny way round – planning a baby together and then deciding to be together, but they have now committed to each other and got engaged. Aw! It came as something of a shock in Thursday July 24s episode of the soap, given at the start of it they weren’t even a couple! However, we’re on board with it. Long may they last! Sarah smiles as Jacob got down on one knee and proposed (Credit: ITV) Jacob and Sarah got engaged in Emmerdale tonight Sarah was being cheered up with a picnic by Jacob as she worried about Mack putting a stop to their baby dream. Jacob reassured her then took the plunge and admitted he didn’t want to be mates, he wants to be more. “I want to be with you. I love you Sarah, I’m head over heels.” Jacob tried to kiss her, but she pulled away. Sarah said she couldn’t do this again and walked off. Jacob chased after her and said he’d rather they were friends than nothing. But Sarah admitted she loved him too and she never stopped. He promised not to hurt her again and they kissed and made up. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Moments later they agreed to “shout it from the roof tops” about them being in love. Sarah asked if they were boyfriend and girlfriend, but Jacob wanted to make it more official than that – and dropped to one knee! He asked Sarah to marry him and she giddily said yes. They broke the news to Charity and Mack, went to the pub to celebrate and Jacob presented her with late mum Leyla’s engagement ring (not sure which engagement that’s from, but hey). What a whirlwind! Jacob kisses Sarah and we love it! (Credit: ITV) We want Sarah and Jacob to last in Emmerdale! Now, sometimes we are guilty of being a little too cynical. After all, on the surface of it everything is stacked against Sarah and Jacob. She’s got a life-limiting condition (if you didn’t already know!), they’re both extremely young and Sarah’s never even had a proper relationship before. The first time they got together didn’t exactly go well – they were on and off more times than a tap and Jacob was actually a bit awful to her. All of this is not to mention Jacob’s relationship history. He’s clearly never dealt with his abuse and grooming by Maya Stepney, nor has he got over the death of his mum. Is this just grief on Jacob’s part? But – and it is a big but – what is life if not for taking a risk here and there? Why not throw caution to the wind and get on board? Here’s all the reasons we want Sarah and Jacob to work. It’s been nothing but doom, gloom and misery lately (Credit: ITV) 1. Emmerdale needs some happiness It’s fair to say Emmerdale has been dreary recently. Disaster after tragedy after murder after heartbreak after drama. We need some love. Emmerdale is constantly splitting couples up, so we are throwing ourselves behind them getting one together at last. Sarah herself has been at the centre of a lot of this heartbreak, and Jacob too when Leyla died. So both of them are characters who deserve happiness to. And let’s face it, who doesn’t want to see sulky Sarah stop moping around feeling sorry for herself? That’s a win for us! There was big age difference between Vic and Jacob (Credit: ITV) 2. They’re a good age match Jacob has a habit of going after much older women. Maya first and then Victoria Sugden, who was nine years his senior. Both women, incidentally, had been involved with his dad, David Metcalfe, at one time or another. But Sarah is the right age for Jacob – she’s 20 and he’s 22. Plus, she’s never dated David, so again, win win. Jacob is going to be Sarah’s baby daddy (Credit: ITV) 3. Jacob and Sarah are having a baby together in Emmerdale! Even before they became a couple again, Sarah and Jacob were planning to have a child. At first, Sarah was going it alone and Jacob was just donating his sperm. Then he wanted to be involved as a proper dad and care for the kid if Sarah died young. Things hit a snag when Sarah had to have an emergency hysterectomy. But now Charity has stepped in as their surrogate, so they’re back on track. Co-parenting will inevitably bring them closer, so why not speed that up so they can be living their lives together right now. Gabby and Vinny are doomed (Credit: ITV) 4. Who doesn’t love a good soap wedding? Let’s face it, they never go to plan, but that’s what we love about weddings in Soapland. We haven’t really got a big day to look forward to at the moment – we already know Vinny and Gabby’s is doomed, given his near-kiss with Kammy. And if Jacob and Sarah’s did go to plan it would mean we’d have the thing we’ve been waiting for: a happy ending in Emmerdale at last. What else happened in Emmerdale tonight? As well as Sarah and Jacob getting engaged there was plenty more drama in Emmerdale tonight. Mack got on board Mackenzie was still against Charity being Sarah's surrogate, but after plenty of soul-searching he agreed he would support his wife. He didn't want to lose her. As Charity gushed over how amazing he was, he actually told Moira he wasn't fussed because he didn't think Charity would be able to get pregnant so it didn't matter anyway. So he's not really on board then... This won't end well, mark our words. Robert versus Joe versus Moira in Emmerdale tonight Joe was continuing his intimidating tactics on Robert, who was not budging an inch. We're not sure who should be more scared of who in this equation to be honest. But then Joe overheard Moira's difficulties and realised he had another fish to fry. He went to see her and offered her market value from Kim for the farm. Moira can stay on as tenant farmer and all will be fixed. Except that won't just fix it, will it? Because Moira can see through Joe like he's a ghost and knows this is not on the level. Breaking down on Mackenzie at the end of the episode, it's clear Moira had no idea what to do for the best. Will she give up everything to save her farming dream? Robert versus John in Emmerdale tonight Elsewhere, Robert was determined to find out the truth about John Sugden. He tracked down Owen's brother Steve and arranged to meet him. Robert fed him his theory that someone set Owen up for Nate's death - faking the suicide note to cover their own tracks. Bravo Robert, you've got it spot on. And Steve all-but confirmed it when he admitted Owen was away with him on the date of the death. But Steve can't tell the police because the job they were doing was not at all legal. So will Robert tell the police? And will John finally be brought down? Paddy counselled John Speaking of John, he was back on the helpline chatroom opening up to Paddy. Except he had no idea it was Paddy. And Paddy had no idea it was John who he was advising to forgive himself and move on. John tried to do just that and burnt all of his medical equipment that has hurt people. Only, Aaron caught him in the act and started asking questions. Is Aaron also starting to smell something is off - and we don't just mean the odour of medical equipment burning...
