Emmerdale star Bradley Riches has hit out at the negativity surrounding his on-screen character Lewis Barton’s new relationship with Vinny Dingle.

For the last few months, Lewis and Vinny have been clearly interested in each other, but both were afraid to pursue anything, even with Kammy and Ross meddling.

However, after a farm emergency, love was in the air, and the pair shared a kiss, before heading home together. But following the adorable scenes, some people have been trolling Bradley online.

Vinny and Lewis finally got together in Emmerdale

Vinny was in a relationship with Gabby, ready to get married, when he first started questioning his similarity after he realised he was attracted to his best pal, Kammy.

But he spent the next few months trying to pretend everything in his life was fine, pushing his thoughts away. Until he couldn’t deny the truth anymore.

While he and Gabby did go on to get married, she soon realised they needed to be apart, ending their relationship. And it wasn’t long before there was an undeniable spark between Vinny and Lewis.

It took them a while but last week saw the pair finally confess their feelings for each other, and become boyfriends. And while the majority of fans were absolutely thrilled, some trolls wanted to share their opinions.

Sharing a carousel of images of himself and Vinny actor Bradley Johnson, Bradley wanted to explain why “representation matters”.

Over the first image, Bradley added the text: “Why does representation matter?” alongside a rainbow emoji.

Then on the next slide, he included a bunch of horrible comments that he had received.

Many of them included sick emojis, and homophobic language, with one troll saying it was “yuk” to see on their TV.

Bradley wrote a defiant message to the trolls in the caption. He penned: “It’s 2026. We are not asking for permission to exist on screen. To love openly. Or to take up space in stories that reflect the real world.

“We are here. Get over it.”

Immediately fans and co-stars went straight to the comments to share their support.

Fellow Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick commented: “Yes Brad!” with a series of heart emojis.

Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd wrote: “Gorgeous!”

One fan penned: “Thank you for always speaking up!”

“You both are incredible, it’s amazing to see on screen. Love your characters together,” another commented.
