Ever since it was announced that the soap schedules were changing in 2026 to a ‘power hour’ fans have been wondering if that meant getting rid of characters. Recently there have been a string of departures from the Dales, but there have also been a few new arrivals. The topic has led to Emmerdale fans debating which characters they wouldn’t mind saying goodbye to if there are cast cuts. It was discussed on a Reddit thread, so let’s have a look at who fans want to leave. Fans want rid of John (Credit: ITV) 1. John John Sugden is an obvious choice of someone Emmerdale fans wouldn’t mind seeing rid off. He hasn’t even been on the show for a year, but his murderous ways and secret life has firmly put him in fans’ bad books. Even before he was a murderer, fans didn’t necessarily care for his character. There was no real substance to him, and many didn’t believe in his chemistry with Aaron. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers One fan pointed out that John will obviously “have a shelf life” because of his crimes. But it seems the storyline is dragging on and they would much rather it be over sooner rather than later. Fans feel Mack is heading to death (Credit: ITV) 2. Could Mack be one of the Emmerdale cast cuts? For a while Mackenzie Boyd hasn’t been a fan-favourite character. And ever since the start of the year when we saw a flash-forward of him running, fans have wondered if he is leaving. It’s one of the few flash-forwards that haven’t happened yet. But it was also teased it could be linked to a huge life-changing story for Mack coming up soon. However, fans now wonder if he will be killed off the show. One fan commented: “I still think Mack will die.” Has Tracy become to annoying? (Credit: ITV) 3. Tracy predicted to be involved in Emmerdale cast cuts Since she discovered Nate was murdered, Tracy Robinson has become a bit insufferable at times. Yes, she is grieving. But fans have pointed out her hypocrisy at acting like the mourning widow when she and Nate weren’t even together. And it seems because of that, fans wouldn’t mind seeing the back of her. One fan wrote: “There is no reason for Tracy to be in the village anymore.” Kerry’s only real connection is Eric (Credit: ITV) 4. Kerry At the moment, Kerry Wyatt is involved in Eric’s ongoing health storyline. But that’s really it. While she has been at the centre of some big stories over the years, things seem to have died down for her. This has led fans to wonder what else is there for her in the village. And if there are Emmerdale cast cuts, perhaps she will be one. A fan commented: “Kerry is literally only there for Eric. No other reason.” Matty lost Amy earlier this year (Credit: ITV) 5. Matty to be in the Emmerdale cast cuts? Another character who doesn’t seem to have much going on is Matty Barton. Earlier this year he lost his wife, Amy, right as they were looking at adoption. When she was dying she whispered Nate’s name as a warning that he was in the lake. But months later, and the Nate discovery already having happened, Matty still hasn’t connected the dots. So what was the point in that? But some fans feel like Matty now doesn’t really have a place in the village. Charles In the past, vicars have been such a huge presence in Emmerdale. Take Ashley and even Harriet for examples. But Charles Anderson hasn’t really had the same path as they did. When he first joined, he had his son and his relationship with Manpreet. But now all he has is the church and his mother, Claudette. But there is nothing else keeping him there. Which is why Emmerdale fans have stated he would be another “obvious” exit if there are cast cuts. Jai hasn’t had any huge storylines recently (Credit: ITV) 7. Jai Since 2013 Jai Sharma has been on our screens. But over the last few years, the storylines for him have been disappearing. And once again, he too doesn’t really have much keeping him in the village. There also aren’t many potential romantic avenues for Jai left in the village, as he has had quite a few tries! Laurel hasn’t actually been on-screen in a while (Credit: ITV) 8. Laurel Laurel Thomas is a long-time Emmerdale resident, so getting rid of her would be a huge move from the soap. But just like other characters, her storylines have dwindled over the years. One fan penned: “I would think Laurel could easily leave if there are cast cuts”. Another agreed: “I think Laurel has come to the end of the road. I actually liked her and Jai together but they could both do with leaving now.” Rodney hasn’t been involved in storylines in ages (Credit: ITV) 9. Rodney Recently, Rodney barely makes any appearances on the soap. and when he does, it’s never for a storyline involving him. Instead, he usually provides some comedy in someone else’s story and then vanishes off-screen again. So some fans are wondering what he is still doing there at all. One wrote: “Rodney should leave in my opinion.” Whether or not Emmerdale are planning any more cast cuts remain to be seen. But fans already know who they wouldn’t mind saying goodbye to.
