ITV/Comp Emmerdale Insider Share By Carena Crawford Jul 25 2025 By Carena Crawford Jul 25 2025 Emmerdale fans pick out multiple plot holes as John gets away with his crimes - again Robert knows the truth, but no one will listen John Sugden Robert Sugden Share By Carena Crawford Jul 25 2025 By Carena Crawford Jul 25 2025 It’s getting exhausting now, not to mention frustrating, that John Sugden is still managing to pull the wool over everyone’s eyes in Emmerdale – everyone that is except Robert. Robert has worked out exactly what John did: killing Nate and then framing Owen for the murder to cover his tracks. Only he doesn’t have enough evidence to prove it. What he does have is a very accurate theory and a victim’s brother who is unwilling to talk. But quite frankly, evidence aside, not much of this has made sense this week – and fans are fed-up. So are we. Robert took his evidence straight to the police (Credit: ITV) John got the upper hand over Robert again in Emmerdale On Friday July 25, Robert went to the police telling them all of his evidence proving Owen didn’t kill Nate. He told them to talk to John Sugden. However the police – stupid as they are – weren’t interested. They thought Robert was wasting their time because of his grudge against his half-brother. They clearly didn’t believe a word he was saying. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers He told then to talk to Steve, Owen’s brother. But Steve did not back up Robert’s story. Dr Cavanagh then told the police there was nothing out of order about John’s behaviour. So Robert was given an informal warning for wasting police time and sent away with his tail between his legs. Back in the village, Steve then violently threatened him to stay away and never try to reveal the truth again. Of course the truth is that Owen and Steve were on a job that was not at all legal when Nate was killed, so there’s no way Owen could have done it. So John has survived another day with only Robert still suspicious. But if we thought the whole village – and the Hotten police (not you, Detective Foy!) – were stupid before, this week really has left us in disbelief. Multiple plot holes in John Sugden’s Emmerdale story There was so much wrong with John’s plot in Emmerdale this week that there was very little right with it. As one fan pointed out on Reddit, there were ‘plot holes the size of the moon’. So what were they? DS Walsh hasn’t done much investigating (Credit: ITV) 1. How did Owen kill Nate? The suicide note said there was a road rage accident, but little more than that. “Owen ‘killed’ Nate in a road rage incident… but how exactly? Did he hit him with his car? Was there a weapon involved? Owen, while tall, did he look like he could take Nate in a fight?” questioned one viewer. Another agreed: “A roadside killing by some random tweaker (who somehow has a lovely house) should be messy with the body just dumped in a ditch somewhere.” John made sure his fingerprints were nowhere to be seen (Credit: ITV) 2. Why didn’t the police check for fingerprints? “If the police did their job properly, they would see, that there were no fingerprints at all on Owen’s laptop, doorchain etc, not even Owen’s,” one fan pointed out. Which is a very good point. It would have been obvious the place had been wiped clean and surely that would ring alarm bells? “So Owen types out a long suicide note, then wipes his laptop clean of prints, front and back. Then kills himself. Makes absolutely zero sense, obviously,” commented someone else. A third said: “I would have thought that the police would dust it for prints and ask Liam if he touched it rather than showing him the suicide note even before the autopsy.” Liam and Walsh read the note on Owen’s laptop (Credit: ITV) 3. The suicide note was on a laptop! Surely this is the biggest clue something is off here? Owen had supposedly typed his confession on his computer – that had been wiped clean afterwards! “That it was typed and not written is a red flag for a cover up and computer screens shut down and locked up after a few minutes,” declared one fan. Tracy was shocked when Nate’s belongings were sent for (Credit: ITV) 4. John covered his tracks in Emmerdale – and Owen wouldn’t have done! Owen knew nothing about Nate, it was a chance encounter on a roadside. So how did he know Nate had supposedly left for a job in Shetland? How did he know to organise all of his stuff to be collected to cover his tracks? Why did he suddenly decide to plant Nate’s phone in Tracy’s house when he knew no one was even looking in his direction for this murder? No one even knew he existed! So why go to all that trouble? Also, as one fan pointed out, this was very calculated for someone who was an addict: “Poor, troubled, drug-addict Owen thought of everything,” they laughed. Robert learnt a shocking truth from Owen’s brother Steve (Credit: ITV) 5. The police haven’t checked anything! “Surely the police would’ve checked into Owen’s movements around the time they suspect Nate was murdered, if only to verify and confirm his ‘deathbed confession’…” asked one viewer. And they have a point! The police seem to just be taking the confession at face value and that’s case closed. They haven’t done any investigations and all they’ve said is the details of the note checked out with what they know. Clearly, they don’t know anything then! Read more: Who’s leaving Emmerdale?
