Bear's in a bad way, Kev's lying to everyone, and Faith returned. This week in Emmerdale was a LOT!

And April's at the police station!

Our Emmerdale review took us a while this week, because blimey, the last week in Emmerdale has been a lot. A. Lot.

Two special episodes, one huge revelation, loads of lies. twists and turns aplenty and a cameo from the dearly departed Faith Dingle.

We’re ready for a rest! But first, here’s what we thought of the action in this week’s Emmerdale review.

100 days of Bear and 100 questions

Bear’s tragic and harrowing story unfolded on our screens this week. He’d had the misfortune to cross paths with Ray and Celia and ended up as part of their team of used and abused modern slaves.

The story played out over 100 days, starting with a bewildered Bear becoming part of the slaves at the farm, the arrival of Anya, and the awful conditions the slaves were living in.

There were brilliant performances from Joshua Richards, who plays Bear, and Joe Absolom, AKA Ray, as well as Alia Al-Shabibi, who plays Anya.

It was a hard watch. But we ended up with a lot of questions…

The timings made us scratch our heads in our Emmerdale review

The 100 days thing was a clever gimmick but when Anya arrived it became a bit distracting. We’re not sure of the timeline and we found ourselves Googling ‘when was 85 days ago from today?’ or trying to remember when Anya was found in the van.

So, we think – but we’re not completely sure – that Anya was at the farm, then she escaped into Caleb’s van? Is that right? Anyway, if that’s the case, we don’t really understand why she didn’t just tell Ruby what had happened?

Moira is so close!

At one point during the harrowing 100 days, Celia gave a jaunty wave to Moira, who was across the fields. And that distracted us a bit, too. Because we thought if they’re so close, how come no one has seen anything? Has no one spotted Bear? Or seen some of Celia’s slaves struggling under the bags of feed?

Emmerdale review: Listen to Eve!

And speaking of being spotted, little Eve clocked her grandfather at the end of this week. And we understand it was slightly unfortunate timing with Matty getting her and Isaac to play ‘bear hunt’ and Paddy having talked about his dad. But come on!

Everyone was treating Eve like she was a toddler who was learning to talk, rather than a sassy six year old. They were putting words in her mouth, and wondering – in her earshot – if she’d got confused between her Grandad Bear and an actual bear. Riiiiight. Bit weird.

Turkey troubles

Anyway, back on the farm, the slaves were in trouble when the turkeys that had been delivered to the local butcher weren’t up to scratch.

Now, we are not farmers. We are not familiar with the ins and outs of turkey plucking. But we feel that there would be maybe be paperwork involved in supplying meat to butcher shops? Some inspections, perhaps? We know Celia sent Paddy away when he turned up to do a vet check but has she managed to swerve all the admin involved?

Also, who buys their Christmas turkey six weeks before the big day, anyway?!

Robert’s prison experience

In what was a rollercoaster, emotional week, we also had a special episode showing Robert and Kev in prison.

It was a lot. So let’s just start by saying that Prison Kev, with the shoulder-length hair and the beard gets a big thumbs up from us.

Shallow observations aside, this episode was pretty good. We still love Kev, though we understand much more now about how very, very controlling he really is.

And we also understand how vulnerable Robert is, even though he seems to be the one in control.

Kev’s relationship with Robert seemed quite sweet at first. At first! But then he stabbed himself and stopped Robert leaving. And of course there was the whole lying about dying thing.

Though we’re still really confused that the prison seemed to take his word for his condition and let him out without asking questions (though perhaps not, given the news lately!)

Faith returned in our Emmerdale review!

But of course the two big revelations this week were firstly that we saw the return of Faith! Lovely, sassy, clever, funny Faith Dingle. We miss her so much and seeing her again reminded us of her absolute brilliance. We wish she could return properly.

Lewis is Kev’s son!

Then there was the frankly bizarre revelation that Lewis is Kev’s son. His. SON. What?!

Kev told Liam that he lies all the time, and one of the lies he tells is that he doesn’t have any children. He revealed he had a son, who was the result of a crazy night with a barmaid in Leeds, whose name was Emma.

EMMA. As in Barton. At least that’s the conclusion we all jumped to with Lewis pottering around in the background as Kev told Liam everything.

How did this happen? What’s going to happen next. Our minds are blown.

April’s in the police station!

And the week ended with yet another revelation. April was at the police station! But why we do not know. Has she been arrested? Has she gone to report Ray and Celia’s crimes? Has she gone to dob herself in for killing Callum (who we know isn’t actually dead?).

What a cliffhanger to end the week on!
