August of this year marks 10 years since Val was killed off Emmerdale in heartbreaking scenes. And despite finding love again with Brenda over the years, Eric has never been the same without her. The pair tackled numerous storylines together over the years. And now that Eric’s Parkinson’s is progressing, many fans wish Val was here to help him. And some think she will return from the dead to lend a hand. Over the years she faced an HIV diagnosis, and embarked on some affairs. But she was always loved for the drama she brought, and for her relationship with Eric. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers In 2023, Eric Pollard was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and in recent scenes has been getting progressively worse. However, he is determined he doesn’t need help from anyone because he doesn’t want to lose his independence. Fans have been fearing that Chris Chittell will be leaving the soap soon, especially as his off-screen wife Lesley Dunlop has already exited as Brenda. And now, Emmerdale viewers are convinced it’s ghost Val who will help Eric through – even if he dies. And shockingly this wouldn’t be the first time she made a reappearance since being killed off. Val was first seen as a ghost not long after she died, appearing to help her husband through the pain of losing her. Ghost Val reappeared in Robert Sugden’s 2017 Christmas special, with him imagining her whilst he was actually in hospital. Val has nearly been dead for 10 years (Credit: ITV) Val to appear as a ghost? Taking to X, viewers shared their theories on Val returning to Emmerdale. One wrote: “I feel like Pollard will die in Emmerdale either this year or next year. And we’ll get one final ghost Val appearance.” Another added: “It definitely feels like we’re building to another ghost Val appearance, whether Eric dies or not. She will be the one to tell him to accept help.” A third responded: “I agree but I think it will be much sooner than Emmerdale fans expect.” Another teased the potential of getting an appearance this month to celebrate Eric’s big 80th birthday. They wrote: “It’s 10 years since Val died this year, too! Maybe an appearance on Eric’s 80th birthday next week?” A surprise return is definitely something Emmerdale does well – especially recently. Within the space of eight months we have had the character returns of Ross Barton, Joe Tate and Robert Sugden. So are we about to get one more scene of Val and Eric in Emmerdale?
