From stabbings and kidney transplants to wild accusations and sleazy hook-ups – Emmerdale this week was a LOT

We really thought Caleb was dead!
Kerry Barrett

It’s taken us a while to write this week’s Emmerdale review because we’re still reeling after the latest episodes. That was A LOT, wasn’t it? The stabbing, the accusations, the kidneys, the shouting, the crying… Our heads are spinning.

Anyway, we’ve managed to take a breath and gather ourselves enough to share our thoughts on everything that went on. Here’s our take on the week’s events in our Emmerdale review.

FINALLY Ella’s interesting

We have been waiting and waiting for Ella Forster to show a bit of her dark side. And blimey she’s pulled it out of the bag! Her weird obsession with Liam and Chas tipped over into unhinged this week and we are here for it!

Ella’s adamant she wasn’t the one to drug Chas. But all her desperate protests of innocence are doing is making her seem more guilty. We know that this is only the beginning and we’re loving it. Our only complaint is it’s taken so long for her to descend into darkness.

The Joe storyline is Too Much

Joe’s quest for a kidney continued this week when he first tried to have Caleb drugged, then got him stabbed, and then stole his internal organs. As lifelong soap fans we’ve defended ridiculous storylines many, many times. But every now and then one just goes too far and we’re beginning to think this kidney shiz has done just that.

We get that Joe’s got unlimited funds and seemingly no moral compass. But how did he manage to find Dr Crowley and his team of evil nurses to perform the op? Where did he dig up ‘Stabby Shaun’ and Gina, the woman who failed to drug Caleb?

But we’re looking forward to the next bit!

We’re still bothered by why Joe chose to get his kidney this way, rather than just going down the normal route. And the other day we suddenly remembered all the business with Will, and Peter the financial advisor back before Christmas. Was that linked to this whole kidney thing? Or was that something else that’s now been forgotten?

Anyway, we really thought Caleb was dead when he flatlined on the table as Steph and Ruby were dancing to Deacon Blue, so we were very relieved when he pulled through.

And now we’re excited about his revenge. Because surely it’s only a matter of time until he works out who did this, right?

April returns home in Emmerdale

The April saga continues in our Emmerdale review

Marlon’s quest to win the award for being the worst parent in a village full of terrible mums and dads continued this week. He is oddly fixated on blaming Dylan – the only person to help April once she’d run away for everything instead of wondering why April ran away in the first place. Mind you, we’re all wondering that on his behalf.

Anyway, Marlon’s parenting highlights this week included hiding a letter from Dylan, having already lied about him going to rehab. And then barging into Arthur’s house, and catching April in the act as she came downstairs with one of Arthur’s mates.

“We can’t be too hard on her,” he told Rhona, who was – rightly – bewildered by his parenting tactics. Frankly if we’d behaved like April when we were teens, we’d have been grounded FOREVER.

Charity and Ross

When Ross first returned to the village we had high hopes that he might reunite with Dawn and stop her being so boring. Sadly Dawn chose Joe Tate instead and somehow managed to stay just as boring and whiney as she was before.

Anyway, this week we were treated to Charity and Ross heading off to track down Mr Tate and it was a JOY. Their banter is so good, the chemistry between them sizzles, and despite Charity’s vehement protests that she’s not interested, we think she really is. At least, we’re hoping so!

We feel like we’ve said this every week since he came back, but we’re delighted Ross has returned and we blooming loved him reeling off everything that happened to his family to a stunned Steph.

Brenda and Pollard in our Emmerdale review

It was lovely to see Brenda again this week. We’re so disappointed that she’s leaving the village – we’re really going to miss her. We’d love her and Pollard to stick together and have more screen time. They’re a great pair.
