Two months ago, Brenda left Emmerdale to go on a three-month long cruise. And Cathy went along with her for the ride. Emmerdale viewers knew this was Lesley Dunlop’s exit as Brenda. But nobody knew how they were writing her out for good. Tonight (June 11) Eric is celebrating his 80th birthday. But he gets some news that leaves him shocked. As Emmerdale has confirmed how Brenda will permanently exit the soap. Brenda and Cathy headed on a cruise (Credit: ITV) Eric’s struggles continue Eric Pollard has been struggling quite a lot in recent months in Emmerdale. And it’s only been getting worse. article continues below Read all the latest spoilers Before Brenda left the village, she and Eric had gone their separate ways due to his lies and the lack of trust. But it was obvious they still had a lot of love for each other. Recently, Eric’s Parkinson’s has been getting worse and he suffered a fall. After that, he reluctantly hired Kerry to help him out by being his carer. But he even has had a hard time trusting her. Right before Brenda left, she told Eric that if he needed her, to just call, and she would come back. But Eric didn’t want to stop her from enjoying the trip – always believing she would come home. While hopes of a reconciliation between them were dashed by Brenda, Eric still thought she would be back in the village in no time. But that doesn’t happen – and tonight confirms why. Brenda sent Eric a letter (Credit: ITV) Emmerdale confirms Brenda Walker’s permanent exit In tonight’s episode of Emmerdale, Jacob was trying to make Eric’s birthday a good day for him. And while it started like that, Eric soon opened a card from Brenda. Inside the happy birthday card, Brenda attached a letter, which explained she will not be returning to the village. In the letter Brenda explained that she found herself and wanted to start a new life – away from the village. And naturally, Eric was left heartbroken. Eric confided in Kerry about Brenda’s letter, admitting that he always thought they would get back together, but now he isn’t part of her future plans. He continued to be upset, and annoyed that Brenda told him the news on his birthday. And so Kerry set about trying to find a way to make the day enjoyable for him, enlisting Jacob’s help. But while Brenda wrote to Eric about her future, nothing was mentioned about Cathy. She went with Brenda in order to give actress Gabrielle Downing time off to do her exams, so it is expected that she will return.
