Emmerdale has confirmed who attacked Liam Cavanagh tonight – and exactly why it happened.

It was revealed that Liam would take (another) blow to the head in coming episodes. And while many immediately assumed John was responsible, nobody knew anything for sure.

But tonight’s episode confirmed who his mystery attacker was. And while the ‘Who’ may not surprise people – the ‘Why’ was certainly unexpected.

Who attacked Liam in Emmerdale?

Over the last few weeks John and Liam haven’t been seeing eye-to-eye. After John messed up and misdiagnosed Kerry, Liam didn’t trust him.

But John quickly played the hero by saving Jacob’s life, earning him Liam’s trust once again.

Although, since Ella is no longer working as the surgery receptionist, Liam decided that could temporarily be John’s new role. So when Emmerdale spoilers revealed Liam was about to get attacked, fans immediately guessed John wanted revenge.

However tonight that was proven to not really be the case. Yes, John was the one who attacked Liam. But it wasn’t to get revenge on him.

Instead, Liam found himself in the middle of John’s new feud with Mackenzie. So he wasn’t exactly John’s target – at least for now. And Mack just had a lucky escape.

John put a target on Mack

When Victoria began digging into John’s past to get him to reconnect with his army friends, she discovered the truth about Aidan.

Instead of being dead, like John told her, Aidan has actually been in a coma – and isn’t expected to wake up. Victoria told him that Aaron needed to know the truth, but John was scared to tell him.

But just as he was finally going to, Mack got there first, after speaking to John’s old army friend himself. And last night (April 24) John went to visit Aidan once again, where he told him that Mack needs to be out of the picture – and quickly.

So, while we’re not going to give away exactly what went down tonight, Liam did find himself on the receiving end of John’s anger – only he was actually targeting Mackenzie.

With fears that Mackenzie may be next on John’s list, will John give up? Or is Mack still in danger?
