Code of Silence viewers praise ITV drama, but have a dangerous theory about Rose Ayling-Ellis' character
By Helen Fear | Mon May 19 2025Code of Silence has finally started after weeks of heavy promotion from ITV and, so far, viewers think it's worth the hype after episode 1 - but they nearly all agree on one thing about Rose Ayling-Ellis' character Alison.
Basically, if you weren't shouting at the TV throughout episode 1 (Sunday, May 18, 2025), then you're probably the type of person who has no sense of danger whatsoever and routinely walks under ladders. Hmmm, a bit like Alison Woods.
Those who watched the beginning of the series will know that the character is a deaf woman who has spent years working in a police canteen and secretly snooping on conversations... Put bluntly, she's nosy cow.
However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she's asked to help the police with a huge case. Thanks to her lip-reading skills, she's asked to help with a covert operation - surveilling a criminal gang as they plot a high-stakes heist.
But, having felt undervalued her whole life, she becomes MUCH too involved in the case.

Viewers' theories after Code of Silence episode 1
It's safe to say that Code of Silence was, on the whole, very well received by those who watched the first episode.
Many praised Rose Ayling-Ellis' portrayal of Alison, and the fact that the series is raising awareness of disabilities. The decision to include an entirely silent advert break was also praised.
However, the residing feedback from fans was genuine bafflement at Rose's character Alison. She basically blundered into an extremely dangerous situation as naively as a lamb skipping through fields of wild flowers in springtime.
Fans have an overwhelming predication about the how the ITV thriller will end... And it's not looking good for the leading lady.
'You're playing a dangerous game Alison'
Multiple viewers gathered together on X, formerly known as Twitter, to collectively share their fears for Alison after she broke all the rules by getting too involved and being "subtle as a brick". She got a job at the pub connected to the criminal gang, as well as starting a friendship with the gang's newest recruit Liam.
One spoke for many when they wrote: "You're playing a dangerous game Alison #CodeOfSilence. This isn't going to end well."
Another said: "You've done it now mate. In too deep #CodeofSilence."
A third added: "She's taking too many risks #CodeOfSilence."
"Have this horrible feeling that she's going to get herself in too deep," said one more concerned fan.
"Oh Alison, you've got yourself in a right pickle. Promising drama," said another, while one more added: "She's turning into a nosy bat. Not good. He's not an idiot.#CodeOfSilence."
"You know what curiosity did," typed one ominous reader. Others simply said: "stay away", "rein it in a bit", "she's playing with fire", "tread carefully", and "be careful here". "She's playing a dangerous game", warned another.

Alison and Liam are 'going to fall in love'
Some viewers made the not-too-unreasonable prediction that Alison and Liam would develop feelings for each other, or that she might even become involved with the criminal gang...
One said: "They'll get close now which will complicate things #CodeofSilence."
Another added: "She's gonna fall for him."
A third wrote: "They're going to fall in love and this is going to end badly #CodeofSilence."
"Not being funny," said another, "but you've a cook doing interpretation work, her 'own' surveillance work for you officers, without any training. She goes up close to the gang of her own will and you don't think they're gonna notice her. She's going to get in with them #CodeofSilence."
Red flags, anyone?
