Who was Slow Horses ‘friend’ John Usher?
John Usher was a “much-loved” member of the Slow Horses costume department. According to IMDB, he joined the show as a costume standby. He worked on all 12 episodes of seasons 1 and 2.
John Usher was credited as working as a Senior Crowd Costumier for Slow Horses season 4, working alongside Pamela Stewart. For Slow Horses season 5, he is credited as a costume assistant on episodes 2 and 3.
What was the Slow Horses tribute to John Usher?
The full tribute at the end of season 5, episode one, read: “In memory of John Usher, a much loved friend and colleague.” Presently, no other information has been shared on when he died or his cause of death.
According to IMDB, Slow Horses was the only TV series that John Usher worked on. Otherwise, his costume career mainly took off in film.
For nine years, he worked at Warner Bros Studios in their costume department. He was credited as the costume assistant on The BFG, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Allied, and Wonder Woman.
In 2017, he also assisted with costumes on Paddington 2 and Darkest Hour which starred Slow Horses cast member Gary Oldman.

According to his LinkedIn profile, John Usher worked for nine months as a costume storeman on Netflix film The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron.
Prior to Slow Horses season 5, he worked on the 2023 movie Lee. The British film tells the story of war correspondent Lee Miller portrayed by Kate Winslet. John Usher was credited as a costumer on the project.
