A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3 trailer teases major book event but fans are still divided
Dunk could be about to spark the wrath of the dragon house in episode 3
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3 looks like it will include a key scene from the books involving Dunk and Aerion Targaryen, going by the trailer.
The second episode introduced Aerion ‘Brightflame’, a rude and petulant Targaryen prince who wasn’t particularly friendly to Ser Duncan the Tall.
The same could be said for his father, Maekar I, but his uncle Baelor was atypically gentlemanly. He allowed Dunk to enter the lists for the Ashford tourney, putting him on a collision course with the knights around him.
However, if we’re correct in our assumptions, he’ll come to blows with Aerion before they pick up their lances.
***Warning: book spoilers for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms ahead***
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 3 trailer teases Aerion and Dunk feud
The trailer starts with Dunk and Egg chowing down on an egg sandwich. Egg asks if he can stay on as Dunk’s squire after the tourney, and we see a scene of them joking about Egg hating the taste of ale.
Raymun Fossoway then asks if he’s chosen an opponent yet, and Dunk says he thinks he and Aerion are “quite evenly matched”.
It’s a brief one-minute preview, but we also see a stage production with a dragon breathing fire. Almost immediately after, we see Aerion with a bloody lip, and he says, “The dragon ought never lose.”
If you’re familiar with George R.R. Martin’s source material, this is a big clue for what’s coming in episode 3.
The Hedge Knight book contains spoilers for episode 3
If A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms remains faithful to the book, episode 3 will mark the beginning of Dunk and Aerion’s feud.
It’s important to remember that Aerion isn’t like his brothers, father, or uncle. If he sat on the Iron Throne, he’d be the first Mad King; after all, he believes he’s a dragon in human form.
In the book, he watches one of Tanselle’s puppet shows… which happens to feature the death of a dragon. Aerion sees this as treason, and he’s so enraged that he breaks her fingers and orders his men-at-arms to destroy her stall.
Egg calls to Dunk for help, who doesn’t hesitate to defend Tanselle.
However, laying his hands on Aerion puts him in grave danger, with the prince calling for Dunk’s teeth to be knocked out. Thankfully, someone stops him – but that’s another spoiler we won’t include.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fans divided by short episodes and weekly release
The reception to the spin-off’s first two episodes has been incredibly positive (especially after some of the vitriolic criticism levied against House of the Dragon season 2).
However, fans still can’t agree on one thing: should the episodes be longer, and why not release them all at once?
Each episode is only around 30 minutes long. Despite the fact that Sky and HBO shows typically drop weekly, some viewers aren’t wholly satisfied by the time a new episode ends.
“Please lord… we need more than a 30-minute episode,” one user commented. “If all episodes are 30 minutes, I might as well just wait until the show is finished and watch them all in one sitting,” another wrote.
“Y’all gotta make the new season episodes at least an hour. Seven days for 30 min episodes is brutal or just drop all the episodes at the same time,” a third complained.
However, as another fan has pointed out, it’s clear that the episodes “are as long as they need to be”.
“People, stop complaining about the time of the episodes. This is based on a novella, the short version of a novel. Hence the episode length,” one viewer argued.
One fan has even illustrated why it’s a positive thing that so many people are complaining. “I WANT MORE!!! I Hate having to wait a week for a new episode! This is awesome,” they wrote.
In short, the show is good. Why give people the whole thing when they’re so desperate to come back next week?
